The Bourne Legacy

http://i47.tinypic.com/2mq9nx5.jpg

Jeremy Renner was functional in this...I think he's an ok actor, not the superstar people are making him out to be.

This movie was a whole bunch of meh for me. The original Bourne's were good because the lead had to figure out who he was and in the process, uncover a secret government program.

I could see no reason for this. A couple of action scenes and whole bunch of talk about the program. Maybe get back to the spy part of things?

I enjoyed it. You gotta consider that it's not going to be as dark as the LOTR trilogy considering that Tolkien intended it to be a children's book, but Jackson did a pretty good job of keeping the overall feel relatively the same. The 48 frames/sec looked a lot more tight and vivid. It was just a better overall picture quality. Or at least I thought so.

It follows the novel pretty well, but there's a few extra things here and there injected into it. The book isn't quite as fleshed out as the LOTR books were so I can understand why they did it. It looks as if they concatenated not-so-major characters in it, and maybe made him a little more important than he was in the entire story of Middle Earth. In fact, the character I'm describing doesn't even appear in the Hobbit book, as he's already dead by the time the book starts, but it's all good, it made the story a little more interesting/suspenseful/whatever.

I missed the goblin-town song from the 1977 animated film. I had it going through my head the whole time the company was in the goblin lair in the mountain.

Other than Keanu Reeves hosting, this was an interesting movie. Famous directors and more importantly, cinematographers/directors of photography, discussing the advent of digital photography and it's impact on the film world.

After watching I'm still on the fence....digital = flexibilty and low cost, film = quality. It was interesting to learn that digital post processing came in a few years before digital filming. Also, didn't know that a film magazine only held about 1000 feet of film, so they only could/can film about 9 or 10 minutes at time, then it's time to change the film mag.

It was a dry movie with little clips of famous movies...some great moments for film buffs.

I have to agree with you and some of the old school cinematographers, film just looks richer and better.

It was strange to see some current movies that were filmed on film.....ones like Dark Knight and I think the Transformers. Action and sci fi films that you would assume to be digitally shot

Cutesy movie with some funny moments. I liked the little Igor kid and the white haired freaky girl with the cat

Some scenes may be a little disturbing for tots under 7...for the most part it's an inoffensive flick that the whole family can enjoy (not sure about the main message it imparts tho...)

Interesting drama about a group of writers who set out to prove a Florida 'swamp' man is wrongly convicted of killing a local sheriff.

The opening scenes seemed improvised at times, the actors stepping all over each other's lines. Nicole Kidman and John Cusack were great in this movie, particularly Kidman as a 40-something whore who enjoyed writing letters to prisoners in jail.Matthew Mcconaughey played a good part as well.

It's not a must-see but there are 3 scenes in the movie that will stay with me for a long time...

The Impossible

http://i47.tinypic.com/2dmduzc.jpg

Based on a Spanish family's struggle during the 2004 Tsunami. Forget about all of the criticism regarding the leads being white. There's a good article written by a young guy who was there, both at the same hotel and hospital where the movie took place. He said that it nailed everything from the type of furniture in the relief centers to the fact that the Thai people had just lost everything in their lives, and were selflessly helping everyone get some sort of help.

The movie went by quickly and has a basic premise - family arrives at hotel for Christmas, tsunami hits, family tries to survive. I liked it but it won't be for everyone. Naomi Watts was excellent as the Mom.

Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles

http://i47.tinypic.com/2ntk6rn.jpg

Interesting documentary about 3 guys who try to figure out who has been leaving 'Toynbee tiles' in hundreds of locations across America and South America.

They appear in the middle of busy roads and highways, and to date, no one has witnessed how they got there. The messages typically contain a cryptic 4 line message and are embedded into the asphalt. Part of the message mentions Stanley Kubrick and the 2001 movie

The subject matter is fascinating when you consider that they started appearing in the early 80's (most prominently in Philadelphia) and that no one has claimed responsibility or has been seen inserting the tiles into the various roadways...

Good bit of detective work and by the end of the movie, the people involved are 95% sure that they know who did it.

Say goodbye to classical reality, because our logic collapses on the subatomic level... into ghosts and shadows.

Posted this before the last crash...but now it's gone.

Liked it, it was a bit drawn out in spots and it definitely took artistic liberties with this type of storyline, but it was definitely enjoyable/ Denzel was awesome as usual.

I really liked it! Super creepy throughout! Can't believe it was PG13. The acting and the creepy atmosphere were great. Del Toro did a very good job once again!

I thought for sure during the take off is when the problems were going to occur, not the landing

I LOVED the part where the fairly Christian co-pilot is freaking out and Denzel calmly says - I'm going to invert the plane, cut fuel on 2 (or whatever)

INVERT THE PLANE???? OH NOOOOOESSSSS

Django Unchained was awesome, loved it. Great soundtrack too, it really made a few scenes.

There was this kid behind me who couldn't have been older than 6 or 7. His family was very Asian, didn't sound like they spoke much english from what I could tell before the movie started. I was seriously convinced they were in the wrong theater and wanted to say something. But nope, the kid sat through the movie like a champ  Actually... he was kind of stone face when I turned around during the dog scene. Kind of creeped me out....

Normally I'd love an epic historical biopic with a great lead role...

I didn't make it to the end of this movie and fell asleep twice during. I already knew most of the historical facts.. talking about them at great length, as well as being full of Dem/Repub bickering made it more boring than...a thread at a forum featuring the same inane political arguments

probably won't rewatch for the last 45 minutes or so, no review
