The Hobbit : The Battle of the Five Armies

I love all of these Jackson films, true fantasy epics.

This one however reminded me of the recent Star Wars installments or a Michael Bay film. 300 special effects and millions of dollars whisk by in 1.3 seconds, too fast to even register or enjoy what went on.I have other criticisms having read all of the books as a young lad. No one could ever capture all of the subtly of Tolkien's books, these six movies probably are the best we will see.

*battle scene was epic of course (title of the film anyone?) ...maybe too epic...

Great review. I think I will check it out..

Others were complaining about the sound in the theaters. Particularly the dialogue. The director Chris Nolan said he scored it that way, using sound as a technique...

It's the ol' situation where the effects are cranked up to 10 while the actor's sentences get washed away in the background...thought it was just me or the copy I watched. (a 1080P Imax rip...)

humble advice - crank up the sound because some interactions are hugely important and they're only one or two sentences...

Hailed as one of the last great westerns. Not so sure on that point. The interactions between Duvall and Costner seemed forced at first...like a bad improv. Then as the movie progresses things get better.

In the comics, there's a little more to Ultron than just running around pissed off all the time. He is one of the most intelligent and formidable supervillians that the Avengers face and he dogs the Avengers constantly. He just keeps recreating himself after they destroy him, and keeps coming back stronger and with newer ideas and methods of annihilating the human race that the Avengers have to stop in the nick of time. I haven't seen the film yet, but I know they altered his story a bit (Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, created him in the comics), but still, if they did him right, they should have left the possibility open of Ultron being around for a long long time.

Quiet German western featuring a small town in the mountains and a man who visits for the winter. Opening shots were gorgeous but why the fuck would people want to live in a place like that

Took me a little bit longer, but I finally went and caught it. Good action, lots of tense moments. The visuals were fantastic. The overall storyline was not as quite as good, but it did keep you on the edge of your seat. Don't get me wrong, some of the ideas were cool, even if they're a bit unbelievable, but this is a movie about genetically engineered dinosaurs in a theme park, so believability went out the window in the very first one back in the 90s. I wasn't as impressed with Chris Pratt in this as I was with him playing Peter Quill in The Guardians of the Galaxy, but chalk that up to some generic dialogue in this one. There was some romantic cheese between him and Bryce Dallas Howard, and it felt really forced. Writers really should really try to retire the romance tropes found in action flicks and try to come up with newer and fresher ones.

With all that being said, a lot of people are calling for Pratt to take over the reigns of Indiana Jones, but based on this performance I would say no. Based on his performance in Guardians, I can sorta kinda see it... if I stretch out my expectations a bit. I don't think he could pull a good Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. But then again, neither can Harrison Ford nowadays either.

I'm assuming there's going to be a sequel since the door was left open in more than one respect. We'll see if Steve-O runs with it.

I'm giving it 3 and 1/4 out of 5. Go see it, get your popcorn and your drink, plant your ass and turn your brain off. It's entertaining, but it doesn't require much in the way of thought. Definitely a summer flick. Check it out during a reduced price matinée, or wait for it to come out on dvd/bluray/downrent. But do check it out.

Julianne Moore does a great job. My only complaint was that the movie is short and Moore's performance should have been given more time to unfold.

There's a certain look that people get who develop dementia or Alzheimers...something happens to their eyes. At the end Julianne Moore nailed it :(

unbelievable...I keep hearing that word when describing Jurassic World :-k

Chris Pratt to me is a likeable guy, but like in Guardians he just doesn't have the oomph to convince me he's a badass or a leading man

Jurassic Park was unbelievable, but it was a good, entertaining flick. The trick with these movies is to distract you enough from the believability aspect just enough for you to get sufficiently entertained so that when all is said and done, you find yourself looking past the believability aspect in spite of the utter walking all over reality. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull failed horribly at this. Jurassic Park was fantastic at it. It brought you back to your childhood love of dinosaurs, and you were in awe when you first saw them on the screen. You forgot that it was all cgi and animatronics. This one almost made it. Almost.

Chris Pratt is a very likable guy. He's an everyman's guy. A guy's guy. I get what you mean when you say you can't see him as a leading man, but he's done it twice and I'm telling you, I believe that in Guardians, he held his own quite well. But that's how the StarLord/Peter Quill character was written. Another issue I had with Jurassic World's writing: Pratt's part was completely serious. It's like he was completely tense all the time. There was no break in his serious demeanor. Pratt has got comedic chops. He's good at being goofy. Not Carrey goofy, but you know, one of those guys that makes you smile and they don't overdo it. It goes to his likability. He's got great timing in that respect. He should be in parts that play up to that aspect of his acting ability. Or they should rewrite the parts slightly to play up to that aspect. The writers dropped the ball in that respect here. Even Sam Neill had some zingers here and there in the first one to break up the seriousness every once in a while. And that's what this movie needed, a little break in the tension here and there. A leading man who was written a little more human and showed a tad bit of humor here and there when appropriate.

My comment was a little tongue in cheek. I've heard that unbelievable description a few times now and it's a movie about what? Oh yes recreating dinosaurs and opening theme parks

I understand and agree with your thoughts on Pratt....he read a pretty brutal mean Tweet about himself, paused and then did the - awwwww :) I've loved him ever since

I apologize. I haven't really talked about very many movies in a while and I guess I just really wanted to riff on this one.

I enjoyed it.

Second film in a trilogy (technically they're making 4 films). Teen dystopian film series where civilisation is enclosed within walls and divided into factions. Each faction has different traits and responsibilities. Some people are factionless (outcast) and some are divergent (can't be categorised into just 1 faction). The divergent people are considered a threat to the faction system. Main character is divergent and she must fight/flee to survive.

W.T.F

Reminded me of one of those cheesy 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus' type films. Except, in this case, it's genetically modified T. Rex vs T rex vs Raptors who are led on a hunt by their alpha male human on a motorcycle vs Shamu the Sea World dinosaur.

Then as soon as genetically modified T.rex is killed, the main character gives the Raptor a look and that stops it from attacking the humans. Then they cue the ''we're safe'' music while normal T. Rex and Raptor are still on the loose. LOL

C.G.I was impressive. Story heavily lacking.

Ethan plays a drone pilot and questions some of the kills. Good time waster and the movie wasn't afraid to support both sides of the collateral damage issue.

Watched this last night. I've read the three books. I think the person playing the lead was a poor choice...bad actress and she is not the short, lethal little package described in the books. And as usual they changed some significant plot points that made no sense.

I liked it. Not a remake of the first yet it somehow contained the mood of the original. It's one long road trip of modded vehicles and violence

The only strange thing is Tom Hardy is a pretty good actor, not sure what he's doing in this limited role

Wanted to see if they improved on the rewatch. Jennifer is a good actress, still think she was miscast and the first movie appeared to have a zero budget. I liked the second one a bit more this time...

i took both my kids to it today as they both wanted to see it. maybe it was that i was expecting dog shit, but i thought it was alright (my expectations were low). sort of slow moving for a large chunk of the movie, the climax seemed to come and go quickly ( ). both my kids liked it :idk:

not sure why there are such negative reviews out there, maybe people are just piling on :-k
