The Highwaymen.. (its about the hunt for Bonnie and Clyde)

https://i.imgur.com/832bAit.jpg

I liked it. Netflix

Netflix's new movie The Highwaymen tells the story of Bonnie and Clyde's final days from the perspective of the men who killed them - but how does it compare to the true story? Directed by John Lee Hancock, The Highwaymen stars Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as former Texas Rangers Frank "Pancho" Hamer and Ben Maney Gault, respectively, who are brought out of retirement and commissioned to hunt down and kill the celebrity sweethearts terrorizing the central United States.

The Highwaymen's cast also includes Kathy Bates as Governor Miriam "Ma" Ferguson, the first female Governor of Texas, who was first elected to the position after her husband, James E. Ferguson, was impeached. Following Ma Ferguson's re-election in 1932, 40 Texas Rangers quit in protest of political corruption and the rest were fired; the Rangers would remain disbanded until 1935, when they were incorporated into the Texas Department of Public Safety, and it was during this period of dormancy that The Highwaymen takes place.

I hated that movie. I like Elba as Roland, but they fucked the story up so bad. They squeezed about 4 or 5 books into 2 hours. It needed to be a trilogy at the very least. There was so much they left out. The only thing they got right that King didn't was Roland killing Flagg. That didn't happen in the novels. But it should have been a bigger build up and a way better final show down.

It was good I guess, but after hearing some of the hype, I dunno, I guess I was just expecting...more? Still a good film and I would like to say that it was a good adaptation of the King novel, but it's been sooooo long since I read it, that my memories of it are foggy at best.

Is that.....is that Greta Thunberg? Oh, will you never stop!? :stfu:

X-men: Dark Phoenix

It wasn't that bad. A few things that didn't make sense is the Phoenix force entering Jean in space but it looked as if it was already in her in the X-Men: Apocalypse movie when she unleashed her full power at the end to kill Apocalypse. So yeah, they apparently retconned that. Jean could've went a lot darker in this film like she did in the comics. Also, Jean's final scene where she took the alien into space and then disintegrated it: Why did Jean disappear after that? I get that she was doing it because she knew she couldn't control the Phoenix Force and so to protect her family she had to leave, but the way they did it could have been so much better and more clear. Again, I don't think Sophie Turner was a good Jean Grey, but she wasn't half bad here. She emoted well and didn't come off so pretentious in this one. The dialog could've been a tad better, but it wasn't Lucas bad. People slammed this film but it was better than the pile of shit that was The Last Stand. The Dark Phoenix story line is just wicked hard to adapt to film.

I liked individual scenes, but in total the whole thing was an illogical mess. I know nothing about the story, but it's as though they tried to cram in 3 movies into one.

Agree that Sophie Turner fitted her roll well, but the other 3 star cast were underutilised and maybe even the wrong actors for the roles.

The dialog could've been a tad better, but it wasn't Lucas bad.

Yes, but I think there was a lot more room for improvement.

Visually amazing.

Based on a novella by Liu Cixin, The Wandering Earth tells the story of a time in the not too distant future when our sun has begun the process of dying, and it's terminal expansion threatens to extinguish all life on Earth. As a solution, the United Earth Government (UEG) has commissioned ten thousand "earth engines" designed to propel our planet out of the solar system to the nearest inhabitable system...

A group of criminals serving death sentences are sent on an alternative-energy-finding mission in space to extract energy from a black hole. Each prisoner is treated as a guinea pig by Dr. Dibs, who is fixated on creating a child through artificial insemination, but has yet to find success. Sexual activity between prisoners is prohibited. The ship is equipped with "The Box," a device obsessively used by the crew to masturbate. Dibs murdered her own children and husband, and Monte, the only celibate prisoner, rejects Dibs' sexual advances. Monte is serving a life sentence for killing his friend over his dog as a child.

It is extremely convincing and all together quite an enjoyable documentary... but the counter-arguments to almost every study posted are readily available online so once you do a bit of further reading it casts a ton of doubt on the entire movie. Joe Rogan had the main guy from the film Wilks come on for a 4 hour debate with someone on the other side of the fence (pro-meat) and I'd say he whooped Wilks.

6 Underground (Netflix)

It's a Michael Bay film, where somebody told Michael Bay that he wasn't Michael Bay enough, and Michael Bay responded with "Hold my beer."

Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool pretending to be Batman without giving up Deadpool's antics, but without the costumes.

There are some funny parts, but a lot of action, some of it gory. Definitely a hard R.

How do you watch these scary movies alone? :-s

I grew up watching horror movies and reading horror novels. I've seen and read so much crap, that I'm desensitized to most fictional horror, although there's some newer stuff out there that gets under my skin. For example, I watched Audition once, and I'll never watch it again. I keep swearing that that movie is one of the reasons that I choose to remain single. But normally, most new horror bores the shit out of me.

Honestly, some of the things human beings do to each other in real life that you read or watch on the news is far worse than anything fictional you'll ever watch on a movie or TV screen, or read in a book. The worst fictional horror, to me, is the stuff that comes close to reality.

The Koreans have a wicked nasty streak as well. There was a period in the late 90s and early 00s, where we were flooded with Japanese and Korean horror films. Then the French got into the act and put out some weird, gory, and terrifying shit.

Anyway, I'm on an alien abduction kick. I had no idea there were so many movies made about the topic. Kerry Russell's freaking hot, so I'm watching Dark Skies

Gratuitous 5 second titty.

Ok, maybe 2 second. I had to check. But it is gratuitous, And intentionally so. But the gratuitous titty isn't the reason you watch Airplane.

Pretty good one! I love zombie movies. This was also the second or third Korean film I've seen recently, they've all been great. Still haven't seen Oldboy but it's been recommended to me a few times so I'm going to try and find that next.

Agreed. Very dramatic but enlightening for sure. I don't use any social media anymore. Got rid of IG, Twitter and Facebook a while back, but I do watch a lot of youtube... I wonder what 'they' know about me from that alone.

I'm not on anything except for Youtube, but yeah, I'm quitting everything. I barely even look at my woefully outdated Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone or the Amazon Fire that I got 2 or 3 years ago, but yeah, fuck those things.

Carmilla (2019)

Fuck this bullshit "reimagining". Carmilla is a classic gothic vampire horror story by J.S. Le Fanu that predates Bram Stoker's Dracula. The writer/director woman took the story and turned it into a 19th century lesbian coming of age tale with all of the supernatural junk that made the original story cool removed.

Are you going to quit/go incognito on youtube do you think? That's my one social media vice that I still watch daily. I have ad blockers so I'm not seeing their bullshit ads but it's still the same mantra: I'm not paying for the product, so I am the product.

I watched American Psycho for the first time. For some reason I had it in my head that I'd seen it, but my wife popped it on tonight and I realized that I don't think I ever had. What a crazy flick. Bale is something else.

I'm pretty incognito with how I sign up for and use most things. One anonymous email address leads to another. I never use my real name. And I don't give out my phone number to these asshats. That's one of a myriad of reasons why I'm not on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. They ask for a little too much that I'm not willing to give out.

Bret Easton Ellis. Read the book.

Brilliant. Based on the story of Robert the Bruce (what a fuckin' man), He was the fellow that came right after William Wallace and is mostly responsible for the drive for Scotland's Independence from English Rule.

It was alright. Overall, not my type of humor, but I did chuckle at a few things here and there. It was more Billy Madison-ish/Waterboy-ish in tone, if that helps any.

There were a few references to earlier AS movies, like Ben Stiller reprised his character Hal L. from Happy Gilmore in one scene, and an O'Doyle kid/relative (Billy Madison) showed up.
