Winter's Bone
http://i55.tinypic.com/dczf9x.gif

Not to be confused with The Lovely Bones

This was a really different movie for me. It featured life in the impoverished rural Ozarks in Arkansas which are apparently just totally hillbilly and very dark and cold both literally and metaphorically. I saw it on several critics' lists of best movies of 2010 and was really glad I watched it. It had a unique feel to it. Slow at times, but not in a bad way. Just an amazing story about a girl whose father is gone leaving her to raise her sick younger siblings and try and save the family home. The kid has some serious balls. Some of the secondary characters were pretty amazingly performed and construed as well.

Think I'll read the book now.

This is the remake of the award winning Swedish film, Let The Right One In.

I enjoyed this American version much more.It features Chloe Moretz, who played Hit Girl in Kickass.
The real star in my opinion was the young lad who played Owen. There's not a false note between them
throughout the entire movie. He plays a lonely, bullied child and she of course plays....something else.

This movie is a slow burn, I loved the way it was filmed. It really gave me a sense of isolation and the underlying,
hidden horror that forms the backbone of the film.Make no mistake, this is a love story...not a full on vampire-fest
full of gore. But in that vein....it makes the violent scenes all the more terrifying because they're not expected.

I loved the cinematography in this movie and the acting by the two young leads. It may not be for everyone however.
A good show to watch on a quiet, snowy night...

I enjoyed this and it followed the original mostly. I thought the actors were fine, the cinematography was good but the changes they did make from the original weakened it overall. A lot of the dialog was missing and a few other changes didn't make sense.

I'll have to watch the original again but I don't recall Mom being a drunk and Dad wasn't an asshole in the Swedish version, he was just distant and had moved on with his life (gay if I remember correctly). That brings me to the point of not making sense. In the original the boy went to visit his dad and the girl showed up there and climbed into bed.
That didn't happen in this version so when he "Let her in" the front door of moms apartment she had already been "let in" through the window. She should have been able to come in already.
Also I thought the first kill was written better in the original, the dog appearing and the owners trying to find it was more suspenseful than stepping in a hole.

Yeah they changed the plot points, not to the point where it detracted from the story though.I liked the original,
yet felt this version brought something new to the story.I noticed one subtle thing....the prevalence of religious dialogue throughout.Almost every character (besides the Christian Mom) said 'Jesus Christ' or some similar reference.

I liked the young actor who played Owen, better than the original. And Chloe is going to be someone to watch out for in the coming years.Saw her on a Leno clip and she's got an old soul.

People on IMDB are comparing it to Natural Born Killers

It was unique when it came out...it was before, or right around the time Tarantino was emerging. The Kalifornia type weird road movie with hip writing and bit of t n a.
It wasn't great the first time I saw it, just different and edgy.Since then, there have been 100 movies that are similar and better.

OK, I've seen the original Swedish version of this film (Let The Right One In) and absolutely loved it. As a matter of fact it's one of my favorite vampire stories, and I have to say this version absolutely DID NOT disappoint! I was completely impressed with it. The two young actors were spot on and delivered an amazing and believable performance, the cinema photography was beautiful and extremely well done in setting the mood as well as the score! I highly recommend this one.

Once Upon a Time In America

http://i52.tinypic.com/1zd6pw6.jpg

Critics loved this 1984 movie, some compared it to The Godfather in terms of scope and story.

To me it seemed like the director Leone, filmed it in a dream-like state.Lots of slow moving scenes, pauses and then the odd ultra-violent scene to keep you awake. It's about 4 friends that grow up in New York, pre-prohibition era.The movie moves back and forth in time, culminating in 1968.Gangsters? Not really, these guys were more of a poor group of lads that turned to thieving and eventually booze running during prohibition.

Ambiguous would be a term I'd use to describe the story. It shifts through different times and the movie doesn't give you onscreen cues like "this is 1938, 1968 etc" .Once you reach the end, most people should understand completely what happened in the plot...it is 3 and 3/4's hours long though.

Did I like it? I did and I didn't...some of the cinematography reminded me of old crappy 70's movies and some of it was brilliant.
I think once you realize it's basically a story about two lifelong friends, that may help in easing some of the confusion throughout.

the second movie was - R E D - a very good entertaining film. the ususal guns & explosions. but not done cheaply or tacky. enjoyed it and the mild comedy streak throughout worked well also.

I actually liked Crowe in this one
He plays a quiet, subdued college professor who plans his wife's escape from prison.

The movie is subdued as well...written well without throwing everything in the audience's face.
The acting by both leads was particularly excellent IMO.A decent drama that kept me interested
until the end.

I thought the same....the animation and backgrounds in these movies are amazing.Megamind could have been better tho in terms of writing and gags...still good

Way better than I thought it would be!! Ryan Reynolds did a pretty fuggin' amazing job and it wasn't so hard to take him seriously as he usually is. I can't imagine acting in that film and given it was in the coffin the entire film it was amazingly captivating.

1970 British "horror film" (at least that's how it's being advertised)...reviews for it were all so good. I thought it was awful :|

Pretty much on the same theme as The Exorcist, for obvious reasons. Film was about two hours but didn't seem that long, so it ran well. A couple of moments that made you jump but in the UK it has a 15 cert. so obviously not as extreme as The Exorcist. It was watchable. No real twists. Apparantly based on True events.

I've seen a lot worse but the cost to go and see it was bloody ridiculous. Not been to flicks for ages and was surprised it was £20+. (say $32). Going on cost, would rather have waited and seen it later on DVD/Blu ray or TV.

Hopkins is ok. Plays everything now pretty much like Lecter.

Woke up last night hoping my hand wouldn't start shaking :D (it'll make more sense when/if you see the film).
