The season finale of the TLC show, My Strange Addiction, featured a widow that has developed a most unusual eating habit.
The widow, 26-year-old Casie, lost her “soulmate” two months ago to a sudden asthma attack. The couple was happily married for two-and-a-half years before the sudden death changed her life forever.
During the episode, Casie explains how she carries her dead husband’s ashes with her everywhere she goes, including the movies, shopping and even the grocery store where she buys him his favorite foods. Then when she gets home, Casie cooks him his favorite meals, but s refuses to eat them since they were prepared for her dead husband.
Casie even misses her husband so much, she brings him to bed with her so the two can sleep together.
As strange as that sounds, the story takes a strange turn after Casie finds that some of her husband’s ashes had escaped from the urn into the decorative storage box that she carries around with her.
"I didn't want to wipe them off because that's my husband and I don't want to wipe him away," Casie said. "So I just licked it off my finger."
Little did she know that this would be the beginning of a very strange addiction. The widow claims that she has probably eaten about a pound of his ashes, leaving about 5 pounds to go. Her fear being that the ashes will eventually run out, which she then tells cameras, may lead to suicide.
Casie checked into a facility for her illness, without her urn, and is under 24-hour surveillance.
When asked what the ashes tasted like, she explains the taste she has grown to love includes flavors like "rotten eggs, sand, and sandpaper."
The season finale appeared on TLC this past Sunday night.
