A Girard man broke into his ex-wife's home, threw her photo ID cards into the toilet and defecated on them, Erie police said. The woman found him on the toilet and called police.
Nathan A. Wingerter was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was arraigned before Erie 6th Ward District Judge Dominick DiPaolo, who set bail at $25,000. Wingerter remained in custody at the Erie County Prison.
Wingerter, 24, had argued with his former wife at his Lynmar Drive home on Aug. 1, according to court records.
A few hours later, at 8:30 a.m., the woman saw Wingerter crawling through the backyard of her Erie home, the records state.
Wingerter climbed onto the home's porch, entered a second-floor window and let himself into the bathroom, police said. He already had disconnected some of the home's phone lines, said police, who issued a warrant for his arrest.
He was taken into custody in Painesville, Ohio, and was returned to Erie on Wednesday.
