MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado logger who cut off all of the toes on his right foot after he was pinned by a logging machine says he was afraid it would take hours to find him and he might die.

Jon Hutt says he used a 3-inch pocketknife to sever his toes from the machinery about a half hour after realizing no one heard his cries for help.

Hutt says Wednesday he was trying to retrieve a pile of fallen Aspen trees to cut up for winter firewood near Montrose when a logging trailer slipped and pinned his foot.

He says it happened Aug. 19 but he didn't file a police report.

The 61-year-old logger drove to a parking lot, where an ambulance arrived to take him to Montrose Memorial Hospital.

I'm sure there's a bear grylls parody here, but I'm just too lazy.

My question is, how did he get passed the bones?

Who logs alone? Doesn't it usually take a team?

It says he was "near" Montrose....that town is out in the boonies and depending how far outside of town he was, there probably was no cell signal out there

Your feet are full of tiny bones with spaces between them. If you cut near the joints you'd never encounter bone because you'd go between them.

SERIOUSLY

How can you be trapped by your toes?

I mean, I've been trapped by many of "those" toes, but never the ones on my feet...

Umm....

....nevermind.

OK, If you're trapped by only the toes in the woods couldn't you just either use the damn knife to dig around your foot? Or at least just pull really hard and hope for the best? Personally chopping off digits would be a last resort after days of being trapped and after every other option has been exhausted.

I guess they just raise 'em dumber in the Colorado mountains. :nana:
