half a cow is the closest
half a cow is the closest
:-s
Only 2 of the 5 items come from a cow.
Vixen
02-19-2011, 05:25 PM
depends on the size of the two items....if they're a big proportion of the cow then it's nearly half a cow

half a calf then? :-s how the fuck should I know

I can try and break it down :-k
The 4 beef steaks average between .75 and 1 lb each. The buffalo steak is 1.25 lbs. The pork chops are about .75 lbs each. The fish is approximately 1 lb and the pkg of brats is about 1.25 lbs.
There is like 600lbs of meat rendered from a cow, so half a cow would deliver 300lbs.
Lance probably bought like 5 lbs.
Man I want that 20 oz buffalo t-bone! :homer:

It's true...we live in cattle country and once you start eating tenderloin it's kinda hard to go back to the more domestic stuff

too much tenderloin can get boring (listen to me )

If you have to get filet to get good steak, then I want nothing to do with Canadaland cows :hand:
The steak I buy is tastier than anything you can gte at a resaturant and you can cut it with a fork :dance2:

Since I've worked in Agriculture and I've lived in Alberta and elsewhere in Canada I can say you're both right. I would say that U.S. beef from a known producer (grain fed, etc) is about the same as top notch Alberta beef filet from the store. I've had both.
BUT, go to the Alberta farm yourself (I knew a cattle rancher just outside of Red Deer) and get some of their beef, and the meat falls off the bone before you touch it! I would liken it to going to Grand Cayman and eat a banana off the tree direct vs buying it at your grocer...no comparison.

The butcher I go to gets all his beef from private stock ;)
