HOUSTON (AP) — A two-week-old Houston-area boy has died after being mauled by the family dog.
The incident happened Saturday night as the baby sat in an infant carrier on the floor of a room in the family house. Harris County sheriff's spokesman Thomas Gilliland says the dog, a Labrador mix, began sniffing the child and attacked him before the parents could pull it away.
The child was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died early Sunday. Animal control officers have taken custody of the dog for quarantine.

Doesn't matter. If the dog was trained and socialized properly, this would never have happened.

HOUSTON --
A 13-day-old infant was mauled to death by the family's pit bull. The attack occurred on Cypress Bridge Drive and Cypress Timbers Drive Saturday.Investigators said the dog weighing 100 pounds attacked the baby in a baby swing, which was in the living room. They said an adult in another room heard a noise and ran into the room where the baby was."It's unknown how the dog got access to the child. It appears precautions were taken to prevent this, but it occurred anyway," said Deputy Dennis Wolfford, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. They said the infant was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where the baby later died.Investigators said the family told them the dog had not shown any signs of aggression. The pit bull was taken by animal control and is being quarantined for 10 days. At that point, they will determine what will happen to the dog.It is unclear whether any charges will be filed.

This is completely true.

Sigh. Seriously dude...dogs are not innately evil. You beat one and train it to attack, it will. People make them violent. Sadly, if you take a powerful animal and make it into a killer, the results can be brutal.

If you want to see the social differences of dogs, visit my house some time.
Coco was pretty much a rescue dog, was beat and spent 2 years of his life in a cage. When he gets around new people he's hit and miss and skiddish as hell.
Bella I've had since she was 4 weeks old. She's been around tons of people and has never been hit or mistreated. When she gets around new people she rolls over at their feet and wants a belly rub.
How a dog is raised is, I would say, 75% of a dogs personality. That other 25% is nature, and I don't care what anyone says, anything with teeth can bite.
