Some 1,900 guests will be at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, St James's Palace has said.
No names have offically been released as invitations begin arriving but more than half are family and friends.
UK and foreign dignitaries, senior politicians, charity workers and celebrities like the Beckhams are said to be among the Westminster Abbey congregation on 29 April.
Not all the guests at the service will go on to a Buckingham Palace reception.
The BBC's royal correspondent Peter Hunt says individuals who have come into contact with Prince William will also be present, including people who have been homeless and soldiers injured in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Some famous names on the guest list, such as David and Victoria Beckham, have already trickled out, our correspondent added.
The service will be conducted by the Dean of Westminster, with the Archbishop of Canterbury marrying the prince and his bride.
Seated in the front pews will be the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and best man, Prince Harry.
Alongside them will be Kate's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, Kate's sister and maid of honour, Pippa, and her brother James.
About 600 relatives, friends and dignitaries are invited to the lunchtime reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace to toast the couple, who got engaged in October while on holiday in Kenya.
And just 300 will stay on at the palace for a more intimate evening dinner, which will be followed by dancing.
In the past few days, those on the guest list have been opening their invitations - a white card gilded with gold in a pale brown envelope.
The Queen's initials are die-stamped in gold on the card below a crown.
It reads: "The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by the Queen to invite [name] to the marriage of his Royal Highness Prince William of Wales KG with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday 29 April 2011 at 11.00am."
Guests are asked to reply to the Lord Chamberlain's office which is handling the ceremonial and formal parts of the preparations.
The dress requirements are given as "uniform, morning coat or lounge suit".
The choice of guests who will get to watch the couple exchange vows at the abbey, reflects William's position as second-in-line to the throne.
They will include more than 200 members of the government, parliament and diplomatic corps, as well as 60 governors-general and prime ministers from Commonwealth countries.
The prince also has a number of charitable interests, including the homeless organisation Centrepoint, wildlife conservation group, Tusk Trust and the Royal Marsden Hospital. Some 80 representatives will be drawn from charities.
The guest list also includes 30 members of the armed forces as well as representatives from the Church and other faiths.

Nope, thats code for 'Darts team day out at the races' and its pre-paid  Got a mini-bus arranged to take us there and back, tickets bought and we're organising a bunch of food for back at the club afterwards (there may be enough money left in the pot for beer too 8-[ ) - the fact that the royal wedding falls on the same day is pretty helpful actually, most of our players have the day off already

Obamas Not Invited to William and Kate’s Wedding

by Keith Koffler on February 20, 2011, 12:18 pm

President and Mrs. Obama, along with many other heads of state, are not invited to the April 29 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, according to the British press.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that, as far as leaders of nations go, the British royals have decided only to invite fellow royalty and the leaders of the former British colonies that comprise the Commonwealth.

So in addition to the Obamas, other international leaders who could add lots of bling to the affair, like French President Nicolas Sarkozy and wife Carla Bruni, are not on the list.

Most of the 1,900 people invited to the wedding are drawn from the Royal family’s circle of friends and acquaintances, according to the Telegraph.

The approach is a change from the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, when President and Mrs. Reagan were invited. Mrs. Reagan attended.

The Obamas have been invited to Great Britain for a state visit May 24-26.

The trip will give President Obama a chance to try to demonstrate he is resurrecting the “special” Anglo-American relationship, which has deteriorated under his leadership.

His failure to be invited to the wedding, even though he is in the company of other heads of state, will at the very least not diminish the perception of estrangement. The invitation to drop by the next month may in part be designed to erase any notion that lack of a wedding invite is an affront to the Obamas or emblematic of the state of two nations’ current ties.

Obama has failed to develop a close relationship with either of the British prime ministers who have held office during his term. Both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton worked intimately with Tony Blair, and Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher had famously high regard for each other, as did George H.W. Bush and John Major.

Obama has also committed a series of faux pas, starting with the move to send to the British Embassy in Washington a bust of Winston Churchill that had stood in the Oval Office during George W. Bush’s presidency. The British had offered to let Obama hold onto it.

Churchill is not just the hero of Britain, but he also had a close relationship with Queen Elizabeth during the early years of her reign.

Obama’s presentation of an iPod to the queen was the subject of much derision, as was his gift to former Prime Minister Gordon Brown of a box set of American movies on DVD that did not work in British DVD players.

During a 2009 visit to Britain, Mrs. Obama, in a gesture of bonhomie, put her hand on the queen’s back, a major breach of royal protocol.

Michelle will surely be keeping her distance in May, while the president likely will avoid gifts that involve electronics.

Royal Wedding: Diana's friend Sarah, Duchess of York is not invited by Prince William

Sarah, Duchess of York, who was close to Prince William's mother Diana, Princess of Wales, has been left off the guest list for his marriage to Kate Middleton.

As the invitations to Prince William’s wedding drop on the doormats of the country’s best-connected households, one former member of the Royal family has been left disappointed.

Mandrake can disclose that Sarah, Duchess of York has not been invited to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, at which her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will be among the most prominent guests.

“She will not be attending the wedding,” confirms a spokesman for the former wife of the Duke of York. “She never expected to be invited or to attend. She will be overseas at the time.”

Fergie has received many highly lucrative offers to act as a television commentator on William’s marriage to Kate Middleton. However, her spokesman says: “She won’t be involved in any commercial work in any way surrounding the wedding. She has declined all offers.”

Last month, it was reported that William had insisted on an invitation being sent to Fergie, who was close to his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, until they fell out before her death.

Beatrice and Eugenie are close to their cousin William and enjoyed a night out in Chelsea this week with Kate’s sister, Pippa, and brother, James.

Their mother has, though, been persona non grata since she was photographed topless by a tabloid having her toes sucked by her financial adviser John Bryan, seven months after she separated from Prince Andrew in 1992.

Last year, the Duchess was filmed by an undercover reporter posing as an Indian businessman offering access to her former husband, with whom she still lives, for £500,000.

Sarah later told Oprah Winfrey, the American chat show host, that she had been drinking prior to soliciting the cash, and was “in the gutter at that moment”.
