FORT WALTON BEACH — A woman jumped into a moving vehicle then had to defend herself from its occupants, according to a statement she gave to an Okaloosa County Sherriff’s Office.

The incident happened Sept. 10 at 12:22 p.m. on Akron Street.

The 48-year-old woman got into an argument with her son’s girlfriend. According to her arrest report, the woman said the girlfriend cussed at her then jumped into the passenger seat of a van and locked her door.

The mother admitted she “acted irrationally” because the girlfriend yelled and cursed at her from the locked front seat. The mother opened the sliding side door of the van and jumped in. She told the arresting deputy that she did not intend on hitting the girlfriend but had to defend herself after the girlfriend started swinging at her.

The woman’s son was the driver of the van. He had to stop the vehicle and pull the women apart.

The mother was charged with battery, a first degree misdemeanor.
