For those of you unfamiliar with his case, which has been a cause of mine for a number of years now, Troy Davis is a convicted murderer on death row, and I do not know if he is innocent. However, based on the evidence against him, there is no way to know if he is guilty either. There is no physical evidence, he was convicted solely on eyewitness testimony. Most of the witnesses have since recanted their testimony, and one of the two who has not is likely the actual murderer. Given this serious lack of evidence, it would be amoral to carry out the death penalty against Troy. Numerous people have stepped forward asking for clemency, including the Pope, President Jimmy Carter, and many celebrities including REM's Michael Stipe and Susan Sarandon. This case has been a tragic example of the abuses of the death penalty and yet, here we are, a day away from his being killed.

Signed. This is my concern with the death penalty. Some deserve it like hell... but I just don't trust the system to place innocent lives in its hands.
