I'm where I always am, the Internet.

Fighting a major Starcraft addiction . . . man, that is a time suck!

I have not had a game keep me up all night in a long time .

Its like crack. You want one more hit. And when you lose to some pissant cheese, it just makes you crazy. There are some behavioral scientists up your way, at SFU, studying Starcraft players, because the game records provide precise details of your level of expertise.

Is a very cool idea . . . your progress in Starcraft provides very precise metrics for a huge population, trying to learn something new and very hard (very hard to do well, anyway)

My question: watching the replays of all these Korean kids with unbelievable speed, I wonder if all the musical training they have helps? Korean kids grow up with piano, violin lessons, almost every kid plays something, and they practice and practice -- does that carry over into the keyboard APM for Starcraft?

I'll have to look into what SFU is up to, that's interesting.

But dude the micromanaging of these Korean kids is just ridiculous. I've seen the Starcraft Club at the Uni I went to and they were running at 100 or so APM and it just looked insane. You see some of these kids who live in what you can only compare to military barracks, running at 300 APM and it's mind boggling.

The depth and complexity really is just crack. It's so infuriating to know 6 minutes into a game that you've already lost, you just have to start over again.

Is 'major starcraft addiction' a euphemism for 'gay sex'? And do you live near Hal?

Hal in red....sexy.

Actually, I really haven't heard of starcraft before. Yet, apparently...hordes of Korean kids live in military dormitories and play this game non stop in an effort to be the best in the world. At a game nobody will play in five years. At least, that's what I got out of this thread.
