They took it down from the inventory list already.

Yeah, I got it from a different dealer than I was planning, but I got a good deal on it...and it's waaaaaay nicer than my Ranger that I traded in....and my payments are the same, so I'm happy :)

I don't have a house or anything really nice, so I thought I would get a nice truck to treat myself

It's awesome...and the reason I even bought it is because of Ford. I was all ready to buy a new Ranger but Ford is discontinuing it. Smallest truck Ford will offer now is the F-150 and I don't want a full sized truck.

The Tacoma is amazing...never been in one before, but it's so nice compared to my Ranger.

Congrats on the new truck.

My friend was facing a similar predicament. He wanted to buy a ranger, but wanted one with 4 doors...they don't come that way in N America but they do elsewhere.

He tried full size pickups but they didn't fit in the garage. Dunno why he didn't try Toyota...too expensive I guess. He now has a new Jeep Patriot.

We needed a newer vehicle, and couldn't spend over 10K, so I went for a 2005 Ford Freestar van. Now I can't sell the old vehicle...NO ONE except a scammer has responded to the ad! Did you trade in the Ranger?

Teh One Who Knocks
09-29-2011, 05:38 PM
Yeah, I traded it in....I know that you can get more if you sell it outright, but I don't care about that. It could take weeks or months to sell it in this economy. Better to just trade it in and let the dealer worry about it.

Hal-9000

How come you're a truck guy Lance? Do you haul around lots of stuff?

Must be a killer at the gas pump

Teh One Who Knocks
09-29-2011, 05:44 PM
You know, I never was a truck guy until I bought my first Ranger in 1998. I don't haul a lot of stuff, but when I do need a truck it's handy as hell to have. And now that I have had a truck for so long, when I ride in someone's car, it feels like I'm sitting on the ground.

Plus it doesn't hurt in case of an accident...a truck, even the smaller ones, is a lot bigger than many cars out there. And it's not that bad at the pump since most of my driving is highway driving. I was getting about 21 mpg with my Ranger and I assume I will get roughly the same with the Tacoma.

Hal-9000
09-29-2011, 05:53 PM
So it's not really a functionality issue (although it helps)...you just like being in a larger vehicle.

I'm going the other way.I'll probably get something smaller than my current 4 door, mid size car.(fuel, parking etc)

Congrats on the Tacoma Lance. I'm seriously thinking of getting one myself in the next year or two. My current truck is a full sized 03 Dodge Ram Quad cab, and it's probably going to my youngest after she drives an old beater for a year or so.

Current vehicles:
08 Dodge Caliber SRT4 (wife's)
03 Dodge Ram QC (my work truck)
99 Camaro Z28 (currently on semi permanent loan to my mom)
91 Camaro RS (bought to make a bracket racer, but still sitting beside the garage)
76 Chevy C-10 stepside (Dad's first new truck. I drove it from High school until I bought the 03, currently not running, and more rust than steel)

That truck's gonna last you for a while, that's for sure.

Our current vehicles:

2005 Ford Freestar - 105,000 kms. Bought it at the gov't auction for about 3k under list.
1992 Ford Aerostar - 346,000 kms currently up for sale. Only a scammer has shown interest (an oceanographer off St. Laurence, so no phone (but does have internet wants to buy it for her nephew in Malaysia(!)
1992 Nissan NX2000 - Had it since new...needs new Daytime Running Light module (no headlights work at all!!) Part unobtainable...4 used ones haven't worked thus far. 300,000kms

They are a bit on the pricey side, but not when you consider how loaded they are and take into account how well they keep their resale value. I would definitely recommend the Tacoma.

Well you know Im a Toyota guy..

My only question is(not necessarily to you) .. Even though the V6 of this thing is rated to pull 6400 pounds, should I really be pulling a 4500 pound boat behind it? Does it have enough ass to really be able to stop that beast in a critical situation?

Now that was service after the fact...I was just leaving work and my cell phone rings...it's the dealer where I bought my truck. He says that he found me a lower finance rate and it would lower my payments on my truck, so would I mind coming down and signing the paperwork again. Says it's all typed up and I'll be in and out in under 5 minutes.

Three annoyances I have found so far with my Tacoma that were better in my Ranger. They are just minor, but I would have thought that the Tacoma would have been better in that aspect.

1) Cruise control is nowhere as smooth in the Tacoma as it was in my '05 Ranger

2) The radio - in my Ranger if you left the volume up loud when you shut the truck off, it would automatically lower the volume when you started the truck the next time. Not in the Tacoma, leave the volume up load and forget about it and when you start the truck the MUSIC IS THIS FREAKING LOUD!

3) The heating/cooling system. I guess off doesn't really mean off. In my Ranger if you turned the vent/fan to off, it meant no air would be coming thru the vents...you know, off. In the Tacoma off obviously means LOW because even in the off position air still comes thru the vents.

1. My Camry is pretty smooth, surprised the Tacoma isn't the same.

2. If it's too loud you're too old. :nana:

3. Yea, my car is the same, it's not a lot of air coming through but it's definitely noticable.

1. My Camry is pretty smooth, surprised the Tacoma isn't the same.

My Ranger never 'over accelerated' to maintain speed when going uphill. When the Tacoma shifts down because of loss in RPM's, it then accelerates so much that it brings me 5 to 7 mph over what the CC was set to and then backs off to get to the set speed.

2. If it's too loud you're too old. :nana:

3. Yea, my car is the same, it's not a lot of air coming through but it's definitely noticable.

Like I said, it's just a minor thing, but then I have to fuck with the temp control to find a comfortable setting depending on how hot/cold it is outside. Kinda dumb for it to have an off setting when off doesn't mean off.

Teh One Who Knocks
10-06-2011, 11:39 AM
And one other thing that bugs me, which was an issue in the Ranger too, is all the freaking plastic. FFS you spend $30K on a vehicle and it still has cheap plastic latches/knobs in it. I have one stupid plastic knob that already is jacked up in one of the storage compartments in the back.

Muddy
10-06-2011, 12:27 PM
If you put the air to recirculate instead of free flow that will cut off the airflow when the air is flowing.. When it is not in recirculate and nothing is on it acts as a 'vent' function..

1- a year later, still like it?

2- you'll be glad to know that if a telephone pole falls on a 2011 Tacoma the truck survives. Just got one in, pole fell right on the roof. $7000 damage and I'm fixing it next week.

3....

No one offered to come by and fix it, so here we are a year later and it's still not done. any offers?

1) I still like it, it's been a very good truck so far :)

2) Even with that bit of info, I'm not planning on dropping a telephone pole onto my truck anytime soon :-k

3) My fan makes a funny noise when it's on 'low' speed, but other than that, no problems at all

That funny fan noise means it's getting ready to explode.
