Warren — He entered the 7-Eleven on Saturday morning with a blue bandana over his face and an attitude.

The 31-year-old Sandusky, Ohio man asked the female clerk for a pack of Marlboro Reds, but when told he owed $6, he responded: "The king doesn't pay for cigarettes."

The exchange sparked an argument that prompted the man to jump the counter in an attempt to wrestle the pack away from the clerk, Warren police said. But he lost the struggle and fled empty-handed before officers found him about a half-mile away and were forced to use a Taser to subdue him.

Warren Police Lt. Michael Torey said the man will be arraigned Tuesday in Warren District Court in connection with the incident about 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the 7-Eleven at 12 Mile and Schoenherr. He is facing charges of strong armed robbery and resisting and obstructing police. The robbery charge carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

Police used the Taser because the man kept reaching for his waistband, but the stun gun was ineffective because the man was wearing multiple jackets, Torey said. Several officers eventually managed to subdue the man and handcuff him.

A weapon was not recovered, Torey said
