Fucking cold. reminded me of a story....

In college I spent two summers in New Hampshire at a camp for rich Jewish kids from Long Island. The second year, I went early for pre-camp which included putting in the docks. Lake Winnipesaukee is fucking cold that time of year. The camp had this old dude who was a fucking brilliant self-taught engineer. He built the place over the years with no plans. I saw this dude build a metal barge on land and paint a waterline on it before he ever tested anything. Dropped in in the water and watched it bounce right to the water line. Amazing guy. But I digress....

This collection of college kids was standing waterfront early in pre-camp. Fucking freezing. The old man approaches the shivering group. Looks at us and says (in a thick New England accent), "Booouuyyyysss... I woke up this morning and it was so cold that my balls were up inside me. And I had to stick my finger up my awss and yell 'snake' to find my dick". We all laughed and decided we'd follow him anywhere. Into the water we went, laughing, and put in the docks.

I remember when I was a kid in Vermont, we had the power go out for somewhere around 36 to 48 hours around Christmastime in the early 80's. It just happened to be during a really bad cold snap and it was south of -35° (-37C) at night and the high for the day was something like between -10° and -5° at the time. It was freaking cold in the house, no matter how many blankets you had. :lol:

HAARP has fallen out of the news cycle in recent years for inactivity, but there's reason to believe that it's being fired back up for "scientific research."

A notice to airmen (known as a NOTAM) was issued by the Federal Aviation Administration on June 17 with the beginning date of June 21 through June 25.

The NOTAM places "temporary flight restrictions" around Gulkana, Alaska, where the HAARP facility is located. It reads that planes are restricted from flying in the Gulkana airspace due to "electromagnetic radiation for scientific research."

We're supposed to get 30+ENE mph winds and rain starting tonight and 24 hours later is the same but opposite wind direction. It WAS looking to peak about the time I'm supposed to get on a boat to go to work, Was looking at possible cancellations of trips but now it appears to be delayed just enough to get me TO work.

You hunt with a muzzleloader? I'm so curious to hear more, do you have any pics you mind sharing?! That's really neat.

Muzzleloading season is a 2 week precursor to modern gun which starts in a few weeks. I generally prefer ML because there aren't near as many fools walking around the woods with a loaded weapon. The downside to it is the warmer temps, more foliage still in the way and the ticks/chiggers are still out.
Archery has an even longer season but I never got into it.

Never in my life can I recall a tornado warning, I didn't think it was meteorologically possible here, but the other day I had a coworker from Ontario in town and he goes "How do you sleep at night knowing a huge earthquake could hit" and I go "how do you sleep at night knowing a tornado could throw you over a rainbow".

We laughed... but just days later we had a tornado warning this weekend. I had to double take at my phone when I saw the warning because it was too unreal to be true.

I watched the video. That certainly was a tornado. I didn't know y'all could get tornadoes up there either, Godfather. That certainly puts a damper on my idea of avoiding that crap by moving to the northern midwestern states.

A week or two ago we had a 'bomb cyclone' with wild rain and wind. This weekend we have an 'atmospheric river' with 150mm of rain hitting some parts of the city. This feels like the rainiest fall I can ever remember.

Well this is a damn mess. Tons of highway closures from washouts (keep in mind how much rain we're already used to). Canadian Forces evacutating cars stuck on the highway near Kelowna. Big chunk of Princeton BC is underwater. The town of Merrit BC with 7000 people is being evacuated. A barge just washed up on the seawall in Vancouver, thankfully it didn't take out a bridge or something. Such a shit show.

The weather so far this fall and heading into winter has been beyond ridiculous. And on Friday morning they were cheering that we broke our 'snowless drought' of 232 days because we got....wait for it....3 tenths of an inch of snow on Friday morning, which was all melted and gone by late Friday morning. :rolleyes:

So, since July 1st, Denver has seen less than 1.5 inches of any kind of precipitation, working towards 6 months of this now.
