I can kinda see not insulating the pipes well in the south, but in a place like Colorado where it gets cold every winter, granted, rarely it gets as cold as it is now, but it still gets cold, that they would insulate the plumbing like they would in any northern winter state.

It's forecast to get down into the 20s tonight and through the weekend. We do have winter down here where I'm at, it's just usually really mild. February usually sees the lowest temps down here.

"As several states in the Midwest hunker down for historically low wind chills, that got us thinking — What was the coldest temperature ever recorded in Georgia? According to The Weather Channel, the coldest temperature was 17 degrees below zero. The coldest temperature ever was recorded Jan. 27, 1940, reported in the city of Chatsworth, in Murray County, Ga."

I've been down here since 1991. The lowest temperature Jacksonville, Florida (45 minutes south of me) has seen in that time, was back on January 24, 2003, and it went down to 20°F. It's reasonable to assume that we had similar to slightly colder temps by about 2° or 3°.

Who's all getting smoked by this 'bomb cyclone'? We're getting heavy snow into freezing rain tonight/tomorrow, and they're talking about expecting major power outages and threatening to close highways.

I heard the temp dropped 75 degrees in Denver in a day or two? Crazy.

Southern California has only gotten a taste of the powerful winter storm system that forecasters say will bring an extended period of cold temperatures, high winds and snow, prompting what officials called the region’s first blizzard warning since 1989.

The blizzard warning, which is in effect Friday and Saturday for Southern California’s highest mountain ranges, is likely only the second on record for the Los Angeles area, according to the National Weather Service, Officials initially called this week’s warning the first on record, then later confirmed a blizzard warning was also issued in 1989, when a strong winter storm brought rare snowfall to Southern California, from Palm Springs to the hillsides of Malibu.

That 1989 snowfall has already drawn comparisons to what’s expected this week, said David Sweet, a meteorologist at the weather service’s Oxnard office.

“Between late Thursday and early Saturday, we’re looking at a storm delivering more snow than any other snow in recent decades,” Sweet said. “This is an unusual storm for the area.”

Officials are still trying to build an accurate forecast, but snow has already started to fall in the Antelope Valley and along the Grapevine, and forecasters are warning of the possibility of severe and dangerous conditions that could last through Sunday.

The event is expected to be “a snowmaker of the likes we have not seen for many years,” said Andrew Rorke, senior forecaster with the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.

Quite the winter we have been having

It's been raining here non-stop for over 24 hours now. Standing water everywhere making the commute just absolute hell. First pic the wife took about 5 PM yesterday which was about 12 hours into it and the second pic she took about 4:30 this morning. First one is just under 2-1/2" of rain and the second one is at 4" of rain. It's getting close to time to build an ark.
