Our east coast is getting the really hot, humid weather that your country is Belle..

We had two days this week that were about 90, 92 and I've never dripped so bad at work.
I usually love hot weather and could stay out in it for hours.

We had two East Indian people on TV being interviewed about the weather. The old guy laughed and said this was nothing (referring to 94F in Ontario) and said back home it's worse.

A younger girl in the full hijab and dress said it was simple. When it's hot you plan to go from your car to inside, to somewhere with air conditioning, to somewhere with shade and so on.She said that
when it gets hot Canadians tend to go outside a lot, to beaches, parks etc and they do the opposite. When it's hot she said they plan their day around staying out of it.

DemonGeminiX

Belle's right. Get one of those huge bottles of water and keep it with you if it gets brutally hot. The worst thing that can happen is you getting dehydrated/heat stroke. Stay hydrated and don't over exert yourself and you'll be fine.

Thankfully, the hurricane missed us but has caused damage on the Outer Banks of NC but not as much as expected. It's over the NE now and approaching NYC. I hate to think what will happen in NY city if the power goes off. It's spawning some tornadoes.
The coastal areas bring so much money from tourism for us and this is going to take a toll on that.
In a bad way, it will create jobs to fix the damages.
I still hope the damage is minimal everywhere.

I wouldn't mind if we had gradual seasons like we used to....spring, summer, fall then winter.

We can't acclimate to the weather anymore. One day it's so hot you can't breathe, next day we get a dump of snow and it's winter.
Don't get me wrong, I probably couldn't survive in your constant heat.I work in a building with doors open and no air conditioning or fans.

At least you can go from air conditioned penthouse suit to air conditioned truck to air conditioned office environment. That's a bit of a bonus in comparison I think..

Teh One Who Knocks
08-31-2011, 01:33 AM

And where is this penthouse I go to? :-k

The Bruce Wayne Manor? idk  85F is gross to sit in unless you're outside by some water or trees.

I remember telling Muddy about the blanket of death (snow) and he laughed.I was thinking about that today. We have stretches in winter when a certain environment materializes. There's 3 feet of snow everywhere and the average temp
for 2 months straight is at least -20C.It becomes surreal. The air is so thin you can't hear much and the world is silent. It's always dark or gray out and I feel like I'm on the moon sometimes. You go from house to car to work to store back to house again and there's no in between. It is like space in the way if you're not dressed properly, you can get frostbite on your face or hands. It's hard to breathe..I end up wearing a jacket from the time I get up until the time I go to bed.

I can't articulate the feeling in words very well...it's like the world is dead and we are trying to live our lives on a different planet.

I'm sure constant heat is just as bad....I do long for the sun tho :|

You know, after living here for almost 15 years now, it makes me miss 'real' winters like I had in Vermont. It "feels" cold here to me now in the winter only because this is what I have become used tom, but when I first moved out here, this weather was nothing.

I miss the days of -30° and -40° in the middle of January. Mornings where you walk outside and take that first breath and it literally takes your breath away because it's so cold and you start coughing because you need some air. You walk outside on the snow in it just crunches under your feet because it's so cold. Walking on the bridge across the river and the fog/steam is so thick because of the temperature difference between the air and the water is so big. And having days like that where it's just too cold to snow.

I miss real winters :(

If I didn't have to drive across the city in winter, I'd probably tolerate it a little more.It is deceptive though, if your vehicle craps out you may have to walk a few kilometers to get help even in the city.
The last really bad dump of snow we had last winter...cabs had an average waiting time of 5 hours because of the road conditions.Even the buses were skidding and sliding ( I watched one ) and you know
that's when the weather is too miserable.

A bright, sunny winter morning with blue sky is refreshing, I can agree with you there...we just don't get many of those days anymore.

That makes no sense

You've heard me complain about our city council not clearing the streets? Big issue for the former mayor, he didn't run again last year.

I grew up in this city and the past 5 years have been hell on our streets. We had people last year who had to call into work because their front streets were impassable.
The main roads never get done, they wait for Chinooks to melt some snow.Guess what? We didn't have one Chinook last year...

I am seriously thinking of starting an online petition for all of the home owning taxpayers in Calgary.Council says "we don't have enough money in the budget to clear the roads"
My counter will be " We will pay exactly 2/3rds of our municipal taxes then "

I think I can get at least 100000 people to agree to the threat...

Teh One Who Knocks
08-31-2011, 02:11 AM
I guess the difference between here and Vermont is, that back there, they actually plowed the roads

Here it snows and I will be lucky to see one plow in the morning on the way to work. They would rather just wait for it to melt instead of actually clearing the roads. No lie, there have been many mornings that I wouldn't have been able to drive the highway to work without 4WD.

Same thing on our inner-city roads. We get the forecast well in advance of the snow - Snowfall warning in effect for Calgary and area on Monday...and we hear it on the previous Friday.
So the whole city knows we're in for a shitstorm and start the drive to work and up driving on 2 feet of snow and ice. They claim there's not enough trucks and plows.

FFS create some jobs, there's tons of people who need and want to work!

Our first snowfall every year...we get fender bender statistics. Each year it's over 200 for one 12 hour period. One day and the autobody shops are full and you can't get an insurance agent on the phone.

There's way too much wrong with that.
