Technically, I didn't buy anything cause I didn't have to pay for it myself, but I won a $50 gift card to Bass Pro Shops and picked up a few boxes of Brenneke home defense low recoil 12 gauge shotgun slugs and a few boxes of Remington High Velocity slugger 12 gauge shotgun slugs. They didn't have anything else that I'd be willing to purchase. I can get the handgun and rifle ammo cheaper at Cabelas, and Cabelas doesn't have the shotgun shells that I picked up. And I'm not much for fishing or camping, so whatever... shotgun slugs it is.

Been doing some research on the best office/gaming chair (https://www.highgroundgaming.com/best-pc-gaming-chairs/) with a good value for a LONG time... because I suck at pulling the trigger. My current office chair has fake ass leather that's flaking off, and the wife has notice it getting tracked around the house

Finally pulled the trigger on this baby because it finally came on sale. They have about 6 main models (https://www.dxracer.com/ca/en-ca/pages/choosedxracer/) designed primarily based on your height/weight, and within each model there's a few slight variations in the material, so I went with the higher end one for another $50. My buddy has one and it's insanely comfortable for the price, more so than the $900 office chairs they recently brought into our office.

Went to Walmart and bought about $60 worth of personal items (toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo, etc) to donate to the Houston flood victims. One of the local TV stations is doing a big collection at the Salvation Army on Wednesday and we're trying to help and do our part. It's not a whole lot, but you can actually get a lot for your money at Walmart.

There was a rattle on the underside of my car so I took it in to have it looked at. Something was rusted and it had to be replaced. I can't remember what he said it was. I just know I didn't hear him mention "catalytic converter". My A/C freon was low (.3), so that had to be recharged. I had my brake fluid exchanged since the manual says to have it done every two years and I've never had it done once (the car's a 2006). I finally got the windshield washer pump replaced. And my alignment was out of whack, so I had that done.

Total price for all 5 things: $520.

So far so good, the Tuner works well, the software is just OK. Doesn't have an integrated Guide, you have to look at a separate guide and manually set up recordings. Fortunately Windows Media Center in W7 and W8 can be set up with a guide that has one click recording. I'm looking into using Plex to remotely stream live TV, DVRed shows and other Media from my house to the island using my home PC or laptop. Will post a review when I get it set up.

Well, just got home this evening. Unboxed the amp, ran both my LTD and Strat through it. Didn't really play around with the built-in effects too much other than delay and reverb. Have to say, it sounds great to me. On the 0.5 watt setting, just about right for practice. 50 watt is way loud for home use, and 100 watt is just absurd. Pro guys could easily gig with this.

Right now, have it in the guesthouse /music room, running mp3 music through it at about 1/3 max output on 100 watt to break speakers in. Gonna turn it up to about 90% after the world series is over. First dislike is I have to download boss tone studio in order to turn on the noise gate. On lead or brown gain settings, noise is bad. Feedback city, but once playing, sounds damned good. Ran through my limited Malcolm Young licks. Very, very sweet.

Friend of mine had an old 100 watt Fender amp that shook the ceiling and fixtures in his house. He also had an original Gibson Les Paul original 1960 cherry sunburst guitar (which I got to play from time to time), so that probably helped with the overall pristine, beautiful, awe inspiring, LOUD sound that came out of his setup

Weeeeeelllllll, in this case it's a bit different, lol. About a year ago, I gave my mother a cheap fender acoustic guitar I had bought and no longer needed, as she wanted to start learning guitar too. She came down today, and wanted to go to the guitar store to get a new good guitar I'd been promising her that I'd buy for her. Think $500-750 range.while we were in there, she went to the acoustic room, and came out with a $1400 Taylor. I was playing on a D'Angelica semi hollow electric I'd had my eye on for a bit.Out of my budget though at $1100. To my utter astonishment, she proceeded to buy both and said Merry Christmas (the d'angelico for me and the Taylor for her). To say I was floored is the understatement of the year. I'll post pics of the gits later after I upload them to an image host. Mine is very, very nice, but that Taylor? It's to die for.

It was 50% off the first week with no obligation to continue after, so basically $39 for 3 meals for 2 people with all the ingredients/instructions. It's like Blue Apron or Nature Box.

Nature Box offers all sorts of wholesome snacks and a large discount on the first shipment. They don't tell you that you're put on a contract and they automatically bill your card something like 50 a month whether you order or not.

Going to the bulk section of Superstore never looked so good for snacks...

I like the idea of a premeasured meal with a recipe because I can't cook shit, but after reading about the various services you can run into everything from the wrong order to bad ingredients to meals that just don't fill you up or taste like crap.

Since I've been living on my own I can shop well and average 3.50-4.00 per meal if I'm careful. But most of it isn't fresh and I buy at places like M&M foods and the frozen aisle at Superstore

I made a crockpot roast with spuds, carrots, onions, mushrooms, garlic, celery and that was a pretty big deal for me

Bookmarked and thanks.

I found if you do some reading, not every frozen food is loaded with preservatives and garbage. Stouffers makes these bags of chicken and vegetables called Skillet Sensations and you either nuke them or cook in a pan on the stove.

I've tried lots of M&M's foods and while not everything is great, I still swear by the Butter Chicken and Basmati rice when on sale. For 7.99 you get 907 grams (two pounds) and that's two meals for me. They have some breaded chicken strips on sale for 14.99 and you get 3 pounds...

but I know what you mean about the same thing....I eat nothing but chicken for a month straight in various forms. While healthy, I do feel the wings and feathers sprouting

Yeah it went past -30 yesterday for us too.

Asshole rich brother gives me another lame gift for Xmas citing - We didn't have much money this year...and then I catch him shopping for a winter jacket that's in between 600 and 850 dollars depending on the site, for himself.

I said - Hey maybe don't fly here and rent cars next year. Save some money and pass along those savings with our gifts (for me and my sister).

The drama continues

He's such a dick, he doesn't even respect me enough to tell me when they were arriving or leaving for this visit. Something I may need to know as I'm running the house! :x

So, this morning he's all nice and suddenly treating me like a human. Then he says - Hey, we're leaving on Friday. Can you follow us downtown so we can drop off the rental car and then drive us to the airport? I respond - Sorry, I'm tied up Friday afternoon. If you would have told me sooner it would have been no problemo

I am busy Friday but could get out of it in a heartbeat if I want  Fuck him

I have to get this out and then I'll stop complaining about my waste of a sperm load brother.

I tell my family I don't want to celebrate Christmas this year and want to be alone.
Brother disrespects this and comes here...to celebrate Christmas. He has three other offers at other places to do this.
I don't have a job, he makes about 130k a year.
I decide to suck it up and get everyone nice gifts. I buy French Press coffee makers and strainers to clean them with, plus clothes for people.
I tell him specifically - I quit drinking coffee, and it was ironic I got a few people French Presses (along with a handy how-to instruction sheet from researching them).
I tell him specifically the day he arrives - I don't need or want gift cards, I don't drink coffee (second time) and money would probably be the best thing I could receive, thank you.
He goes shopping while he's here on Christmas Eve (because he's so disorganized and doesn't think about others first).
Open my gift from him and his wife (dual income family, she makes a bundle doing hair at an upscale a salon) and it's a....

...cheaper version of the same French Press I gave them :( If you don't drink coffee, in a nutshell...you need to buy whole beans, you should buy a specific type of bean grinder called a burr grinder, and a person could get snobby and use a scale/timer/etc to make this type of coffee properly. It's not hard, but think espresso or specialty coffee rather than the normal pot 'o sludge.

Did I mention I'm trying to quit drinking coffee? :|

Then I find out he got my sister a 25 dollar gift card to Tim Hortons! Same thing I got from him last year. I would be livid if I was her. She makes fudge for an army of people, sends multiple gifts with the fudge, and sends people like me a check for 100 dollars on top of it all, and this is a 'slim' Christmas in terms of giving according to her. Her son just had a baby a few days before Xmas, so even with that HUGE distraction, my sister is a total giver and a very kind person in terms of Christmas.

Then my asshole...umm..then my brother says to both of us - Sorry it was tight Christmas for cash for us this year and it's reflected in the gifts we had to give.

Two flights out here return at Christmas time - 989 bucks
Car rental for 6 days - over 300 bucks
Money spent here on 'their food' since they arrived (both are BIG eaters) 200 dollars

1500 at least...

Combined total of gifts for his only brother and only sister - 45 dollars.

Whew, that was a lot and I usually don't put Christmas in monetary terms like this. You give what you can. Like my Dad taught me, giving a nice, thoughtful present is the best present you can give yourself. If he's watching my brother right now, he would be ashamed of him.

 Coincidence....him and I just had a very long, serious conversation about life since I made that post.

I got a misty eyed talking about my Mom and Dad and Christmas is general.

I got my Mom four nice sweaters and some chocolates. Since she's in a dementia care facility, she may not even wear the clothes as things go missing, other patients wander around and take stuff etc...it's normal. Him and I saw my Mom on Xmas, gave her the gifts and I said - This one is from me and Dave (my brother), because he didn't even buy her one.

So today, he just said to me like two minutes ago - Here's a 20 to help with Mom's gift :)

Okay I'm going to be an ass again .... The clothes I bought my Ma were in excess of a 100 dollars  fully realizing she may never wear them and that she won't understand where they came from.

I am miles from perfect and part of me feels like shit for even explaining the cost of gifts on a forum....but I sleep fine at night and am glad I don't share any of his Patrick Bateman genes.

It's actually the wife's...the lease on her Pathfinder was going to be up in a couple of months, so we went down Saturday to look at options. Either buy out the lease or lease something new. Buying out the lease or leasing a new Pathfinder would have put us in the $400+ per month payment (the existing lease on the '15 Pathfinder was $278/month) and we didn't want to go up that much in monthly payments. So we looked at something a little bit on the smaller side and decided on the Rogue. Now that we only have 2 giant dogs instead of 3, didn't need quite as much room for animal transport either

Amazing what happens when you go into a dealership on the last weekend of the month and you're the first customer of the day. The Rogues we looked at were all fully loaded, it was crazy what they all have now. And at first, even the numbers on the Rogue were going to be more than we really wanted to spend. So, after taking up plenty of the salesperson's time, we were about to walk because we told him that we needed to go discuss things. Then he said, okay, what if I can get a deal with no money down and the lease payment under $300/month? We both said 'done' with a laugh. And guess what? They were able to do the deal even though prior to that he wanted money down and a payment in the $340/month range on a 3 year lease. Then, they didn't have the first color that she wanted, but they had a black one which she said was okay. That one had even MORE options on it than the first one we looked at. Still didn't change the deal we got. Just hold out and those bastards will agree to almost anything. It probably helps that now we've gotten 4 vehicles from that same dealer now.

The Rogue she got has all the bells and whistles you can imagine and then some. Pretty happy with the deal. Little smaller vehicle, but didn't really need the full sized Pathfinder anymore. So even though it took the better part of our Saturday, it worked out well.

Did some wheelin' and dealin' yesterday, a friend wanted to borrow my pressure washer. I won't normally lend it but decided to anyway as I've been kicking around getting a more powerful one. He called to tell me how great the thing runs, I said $150 and it's yours... he paused and said $125? SOLD! I bought that one used 4 years ago for $100 and probably put an additional 100 hours on it.

Went looking for a new one, I was going to get another Troy Bilt with Honda engine as the one I'd just sold was VERY good to me. Then I saw a Generac on clearance at Menards (last one) for $299. Lets hope Generac lives up to it's name.

So basically I went from a used, beat up Troy Bilt 2600psi to a new Generac 3100psi for $200 out of pocket. I'm pretty excited to pick it up to day and run it through it's paces.

Does Generac manufacture their own motors?

Yes, I believe so. I was really going to get something with a Honda motor like my last one but Generacs reputation is really good with generators and the reviews for this were higher than most other brands.... We will see. It has a two year warranty and I run my pressure washers hard.

That's a wonderful guitar. I've tried a couple, and like them, but, wierd enough, the headstock totally turns me off, thus, I still have my cheapo yamaha. I've just broke down my riding mower (with 600+hrs on it) for the last time. Gave it to a friend and bought this:

The only things I haven't liked about the Xperia series is the sluggish camera and slow software updates. These two things excel with the Pixel.

That's sick. You know Roger Daltrey was on a Maron's podcast recently and was talking about how he and a lot of guys growing up in post-war Britain built their own guitars to start out of scraps and shit they could steal basically, think he said Keith Richards did too. Dalton's first guitar he built from plywood and just copied a friend's spanish guitar as best he could, lasted a couple weeks  I had no clue. Super super interesting listen... just skip the intro because Maron rants about Trump a lot before the guests come on, but it's not an otherwise political interview

I'm not in that league, lol. I do plan on doing a relic on the body. Mostly that's why I bought this cheap one. I will see if a spare strat neck fits in the pocket correctly. If it does, and lines up right, I may even use this on full build. This is all mostly to practice on, as I dont want to f-up my good guitars, lol
The neck I'm going to buy is an all parts brand. I've read mostly good reviews on them, and for $130, hard to pass up.

My next project.

Dammit. Not the same model year as my old '92 EX370. This one's a '93. Big deal? Yep, the '93 neck is completely different. They can't be swapped. I can't cannibalize the '93 guitar to get my old '92 to play again. So I get to gut the '93 and make it my own. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and try to fix the '92 neck the hard way. I know, 3rd world problems. But I suck at woodworking and repair, and it'll cost me a boatload of cash to pay someone to do it. The cracks shouldn't be hard, just get some loctite and clamp it up. The warp's a different story. I don't know how the hell I'm going to accomplish that.

KevinD
12-15-2018, 04:10 PM

There's dudes online trying to calculate if it's economically feasible to drive to the next province, just to fill up their large trucks

I'm so curious. Those air fryers seem too good to be true. Let us know!

First attempt was great. Just did some chicken breast chunks with a spicy coating and frozen fries. 13 minutes, no preheat, was really good. It's not entirely oil-less since they suggest you have an oil sprayer to lightly coat the items, which I did. That first meal was more of convection oven bake than a fry. Which is really what the device is, a small convection oven. Most of the ones sold are smaller, so watch capacity. The Big Boss is pretty huge.

I am going to try some potato wedges that I would normally fry next and attempt to dehydrate some fruit. But definitely no room heat and no oil smell.

Given that I can do a meal in one container and the cooking speeds are fast, it's the baking equivalent of an instant pot.

Had a company come quote carpet cleaning, plus steam cleaning the tile in the shower and then re-sealing the grout and tile and caulking it. Going to cost $300 including tax. I'm pretty happy with that. I could rent a steam cleaner for the carpet for probably $40 but doing stairs is a pain in the ass, and then steaming, sealing the tiny little grout on these stupid small tiles in the shower and then caulking (my least favorite job) the perimeter of the shower would probably take me a whole damn day and I'd likely fuck up the caulking  Take my money.
