Yeah usually I play the Illinois "Lucky Day Lotto" and whatever else is that day when I go to the liquor store. Never win shit.

It's choose 5 from 1-39 (I'm looking at the Illinois lottery website). You can cover the spread in 8 plays.

How much do you spend on it?

DemonGeminiX

It's been played everyday since June 1st 1988. That would be a tall order to sort through.

sometimes a couple bucks sometimes $5... I might try picking some numbers :-k

DemonGeminiX

I was thinking about getting some more powerball tickets. I wanted to cover the spread, just as an experiment to see if I would hit a prize. Given the numbers I got through the quickpicks, I would need 7 more plays to cover the spread of numbers that went left unpicked on the quickpicks.

right now, i am leaning towards these:

they are definitely overpriced, like damn near everything else! imho earbuds are a little limiting since they take the shape of your outer ear out of the equation, wind up sounding a little less natural and spacious. I mostly use my beyers (http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0006NL5SM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354805742&sr=1-1&keywords=beyer+dynamic) if I want sound quality.

ooooh, question -

What do I use to clean the screen with? I assume it's like most readers, hard plastic without a true capacitive screen...infra-red is used for the swiping. Does that mean I can use a damp cloth without screwing it up?

Pony

I pretty much stick with the LCD/plasma wipes or LCD spray and a soft cloth. Works so much better than just a damp cloth.

No, the Squier is an entry level or base model for Strats, nothing wrong with it at all...

problem with whammy bars is when used effectively, they can sound good...unfortunately noobs (and others) wrench the bar so hard, the strings go outta tune quick.

Yep, I know it's entry level, but it fits the bill for what I need right now, which is just something to learn on. I got the whole package for a bit under $200. So far I'm pleased with the guitar, but the amp sux. If I keep this learning up, the amp is first on the list to upgrade.

Buy a metronome. A cheap one. They're annoying as fuck but they're absolutely necessary with respect to mastering tempo control and timing.

And a tuner, if you don't have one already. Be sure to play with a guitar that is in tune.

Use your pinky. I say again: USE YOUR PINKY FINGER ON YOUR FRETTING HAND. I know it hurts when you're starting off, but it'll pay dividends down the road. Some people will tell you that it doesn't matter, but I've been playing for 26 years and I'm telling you that it does. Use your pinky.

Map out your fretboard on paper and memorize the notes of each fret on each string.

Learn to read tab. It's pretty easy and straightforward. I'd advise you to learn to read standard notation, but I rarely use it anymore, so I'd just be being a hypocrite if I did.

Find Steve Vai's 10-hour workout. Somebody has it online somewhere. He's got good advice on practice regimens. I still use his finger exercises to this day.

Get a chord book, a scale book, and a chord progressions book. Nothing too extravagant (I've got encyclopedias, but that'd be too advanced for you at your current stage and I have a thing for having a large library at my fingertips for my interests). You're gonna wanna learn, in every key, the basics first: open chords, both major and minor, bar chords both major and minor, power chords, the basic major and minor scales, the major pentatonic and minor pentatonic scales, and typical basic chord progressions (I IV V I, etc). I bet you could find this junk online for free so the "books" aren't necessary. Bookmark the useful websites and visit them frequently.

If you think you're gonna wanna learn fingerstyle playing (plucking the strings with your fingers instead of a pick... Paul Simon does it, and Dust in the Wind is played that way) somewhere down the road, you might as well start now. I started with a pick exclusively and when I finally started learning fingerstyle playing, I was kicking myself for not starting it sooner.

Take the time to learn to do everything clean. Start off slow (using the metronome you bought), you don't have to be Speedy Gonzalez out of the gate. Take your time.

There's a youtube video for everything nowadays, so you might want to look around for beginning guitar lessons on there.

You'll pick up little things here and there as you go on, but if you have any questions, let one of us know.

I think I just threw about 3-6 months of unstructured lessons at you. You can figure out how to structure them yourself. If you don't like structure, you can be lazy and noodle around on it while you're watching tv. Don't be surprised when your family throws something at you.

Have fun. And use your pinky.

Edit: Almost forgot: Music is a hearing art, so learn to listen. And listen to a ton of different kinds of music. You can learn something everywhere.

Buy a metronome. A cheap one. They're annoying as fuck but they're absolutely necessary with respect to mastering tempo control and timing. Plan to go get one today. Shopping at Guitar center now

And a tuner, if you don't have one already. Be sure to play with a guitar that is in tune. Bought a Snark. The guitar came with one, but I didn't like it. The Snark is easy, and still allows different tuning (Drop D etc)

Started off using pniky, so no problem there. Later I think I'll try to include thumb too.

Map out your fretboard on paper and memorize the notes of each fret on each string. Haven't done this at all, not really sure what you mean.

Learn to read tab. It's pretty easy and straightforward. I'd advise you to learn to read standard notation, but I rarely use it anymore, so I'd just be being a hypocrite if I did.

Getting better at TAB, got TablEdit software as well. There's a few symbols I haven't figured out yet, but working on it. Also bought a big TAB book from Guitar center

Find Steve Vai's 10-hour workout. Somebody has it online somewhere. He's got good advice on practice regimens. I still use his finger exercises to this day.

I'll have a look around for this

Bought a Chord book, doing okay on D,A,E,C and G, but F is giving me fits. Almost had it last night but fingers started cramping so put it down. Never heard of Scale or Chord progressions so will look into those

If you think you're gonna wanna learn fingerstyle playing (plucking the strings with your fingers instead of a pick... Started off finger picking and pick style, No particular reason, just the way my friend showed me on a few songs (Nothing Else Matters, for example)

My ear is fairly good, I have musical background (Piano for a year or two, then Percussion) For my structured stuff, I'm pretty much following along with www.justinguitar.com
Wife and kiddo are all already tired of hearing me practice. When I sit down at end of day, I pick up guitar and start working on chords, and finger exercises while watching TV.

Thanks for the advice and comments. My friend plays very well, but is self taught, and doesn't know tabulature or notation, Bro in law is also self taught but does know both. I don't have any plans whatsoever to be a real musician, so not worried about standard notation, lol Just want to be able to pick up a guitar and have some fun.

I don't think so? You don't have any comfy cotton pants you lay around in that you wouldn't wear out?

Going to Walmart isn't good enough of an excuse for people down here to get dressed up.

I had a small 6 drawer roller box I used to use but I sold that to an apprentice who needed a toolbox for $50 years ago.

I don't have big knarly hands either, no calluses from constantly using sandpaper. I can really surprise people shaking hands with the strength of my grip though, especially when some dipshit kid thinks he's a badass and is gonna try and intimidate me while shaking.

I punch cute things like plush toys and chicks...and I punch people that call cars or electronics cute...and I punch midgets because they have short arms and make all sorts of funny noises when they bleed :)

Nice RBP. I haven't worn Converse since High School. Speaking of shoes, I have to go by the boot store and exchange some boots my Mom bought me fro Christmas. She got the size right, but the width she got was a "b". I wear "d" width shoes. lol
