New headlight for my car... I can never decide if I should buy the 10$ ones or the $40 ones advertised to be "25% brighter with 30% wider spread". I live in a well-lit major city, bright low-beams just makes makes me a douche don't they?

I use the bright ones, they really do make a hell of a difference, especially helping to light up road signs, road striping and when the roads are wet. Considering many new cars come with brighter lights I don't think it makes you a douche unless you aim them high on purpose. I have never had anyone complain or make rude gestures at me.

I tend to buy a selection of different brands...my old OCZ Rally was 5 times faster than the Kodak flash drive I bought.....HP was average, my recently bought Corsair voyager just rocks (never knew it was USB 3.0...durhhh) and Mushkin seems pretty good.

Yamaha APX 500II FM OVS. Got it Sun from Guitar Center, brought it home, tuned it up and played it for a few hours. Love the thinline body, cut out, and neck. NOT wild about the amp plug in location (inside the rear strap button) and dunno whether or not I like not having a pick guard. Suppose I could add one later.

Hal-9000
02-13-2013, 03:54 PM
Lovely Keven, I'm sure you'll like it

quite a different experience compared to a small neck electric?

don't worry about the plug in...in the old days we never plugged in acoustic guitars :)

KevinD
02-13-2013, 03:57 PM
Actually, the neck is very similar to my Strat. The action is a bit higher, and strings are obviously bigger, so taking a bit to get used to. I've only plugged it in once. I'll need a better amp one day, lol
I like it but still debating on adding a pick guard. Next purchase will be a gig bag or case for it.

Hal-9000
02-13-2013, 04:01 PM
like you mention, acoustics have larger strings, action is off the fretboard and usually the neck is a lot larger...gotta be more precise and stronger with your playing comparatively

and you can play some Willie Nelson

KevinD
02-13-2013, 04:03 PM
Last night I spent about 1/2 hour just working on hammer on's/pull off's with the new guitar. I'm getting some string buzzing when I play 7th fret or higher on 6th string. Not sure if it's me or that the action on the neck is substantially higher near the body as opposed to the headstock

how did the two dozen red roses go over Lance?

a guy at work here got two red roses from his wife and he melted......

They were actually delivered on the 13th, because I took the 'flexible option" (delivery on the 13th or 14th) instead of paying an extra $20 (on top of the $15 delivery fee already) to guarantee delivery on the 14th. Florists really rape you on delivery charges. :wha:

She was surprised and she liked them...plus she was the only one at work to get flowers for Valentines Day. :)

Thanks for asking :)

yeah I know about the floral delivery raping...both on price and timing. Good to hear she liked the gesture, it was very sweet dude.

I started buying my old flame little stuffed monkeys and sending them with flowers, each day I had a dental appointment.
She had 42 monkeys when I stopped doing it (seriously, we counted). I got really creeped out because she put them in

The V-tone is fairly nice, at least at less then 3/4 volume. After that, there's a fair amount of bass vibration. For $40 though, it makes a great practice amp for me, and blows the POS Squire amp that I got with the Strat away.

When I get ready to buy a "real" amp, from playing around at Guitar Center, I'll either go with a Fender Mustang 3.

Even after 26 years of playing, I still have to use a tuner to tune up. My ear is naturally tuned to B flat. When I was a little kid, I started playing music with the trumpet. It's a B flat instrument, and I was playing it for several years before I switched to the guitar, so that's what my ear is accustomed to hearing.

This looked fun so I bought it :) It's an electronic breathalyzer for phones and ipads. It glows colors depending on what you blow.

My sis and brother in law will love it.

Sells for $90 on sale on the website, but Livingsocial has it for $29. I also found a promotional code that worked for another $5 off, so it only cost me $24 total including shipping. idk if anyone here buys from livingsocial but it was MARCHVIP5 for the $5. I also used them for a golf deal. It was $49 for 2 rounds including the cart. I bought another one from Groupon for 2 rounds for $55 including the cart. No I don't walk the golf course... who would carry the beer with no cart? ;)

Weird. So sign up. I was hesitant to do it, but they really do have good deals. I get more email from them than I would like though but I have gotten pretty good with managing email especially with the phone. "email alert" *delete* bam, inbox clear.

Meh, maybe later. I'll bookmark it. The only things I need to be spending money on right now are a gun, a gym membership, and car junk (maintenance, insurance, license renewal is coming up, etc). My nephew's birthday's coming up too, so I need to be thinking about that.

Yeah, but they don't have my small town listed (I went through their list). It looks like they only do big cities and I'm not driving 45 minutes to an hour into Florida to go to a gym. I've got a couple of gyms I can join around here. I just need to go check them out.

Now that shit's expensive.

Depends on what you buy. The more expensive stuff doesn't bother me. For those people where playing the guitar became their religion, the cost never bothers them. Now I wouldn't buy anything that could be considered a "collectible". I don't buy guitars just to look at them as they're collecting dust. I have to be able to play them. I wouldn't feel right playing one of those old collectible guitars so I just shrug those off. But I wouldn't have a problem with dropping $3500 on a good custom shop guitar.

You mean the car's chassis? Christ, a transmission would run you about $2000, what kind of car can you get for less than $3500?

I have a 1999 Infinity I30t with 170,000 miles on it. Runs great. I spend money on it though... $1600 in repairs this year already.
