:idk:

Maybe, maybe not. Reid said he never had a problem with Jackson. He is getting older, but still, he put up numbers last year like he did before. Nobody wanted to trade for him, so there may be something to the personal slant. Maybe they're just trying to get him on the cheap and the front office wanted what other teams thought was way too much for a player nearing his thirties. So test the personal angle and see if the Eagles drop him and maybe they'll take a shot at him when he lowers the asking price. It did seem they were at odds at times during Chip Kelly's first season. We'll see how things shake out.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seemed that Reid was more willing to take flyers on risky guys. Kelly seems more narrow in his definition of acceptable professional behavior.

DemonGeminiX
03-29-2014, 12:58 AM
Well, that's true. Reid didn't mind dealing with the guys everybody else hated. Hell, he put up with T.O. for a while. I've never heard of any bad behavior coming out of Oregon when Kelly was coaching there.

DeSean Jackson is now with the Washington Redskins. He signed a 3-year deal. Apparently, they paid a lot to get him but how much has yet to be disclosed.

Congrats, Muddy. You got a speed demon on your squad now.

This does not bode well for the Eagles who are division rivals of the 'Skins. I hope this doesn't blow up in Chip Kelly's face.

I admit to saying "who?" - don't know anything about the kid. The Bears need secondary improvement, maybe he can play safety - anything would be an improvement over Conte.

Draft Analysis:

"Marcus Smith is a pretty exciting edge player. The important thing ultimately is 'can this kid play?' They have Connor Barwin on one side and Trent Cole, who will turn 32 years old, on the other. In that scheme he's a perfect fit. The pick attacks an area of need for the Eagles, and they got some extra picks in the process." -- Mike Mayock

Mark Rypien was drafted 146th in the 6th round of the 1986 draft. He won a Superbowl with the Redskins in '91. Got the MVP award as well.
Joe Theismann was picked 99th in round 4 of the 1971 draft.

Bleacher Report NFL Draft First Round Report Card:

32. Minnesota Vikings (via Seattle) -- Teddy Bridgewater (QB Louisville)

Grade: A+

How This Pick Goes Right:

My top quarterback goes No. 32.

Clearly the NFL didn't agree with my board as I considered Bridgewater a lock for the top 10 just a few months ago, but he lands in a spot that will help his development.
Bridgewater runs an offense. He'll be able to master Norv Turner (http://bleacherreport.com/norv-turner)'s complicated offense with no issues. He has plenty of help from Adrian Peterson (http://bleacherreport.com/adrian-peterson), Kyle Rudolph, Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings (http://bleacherreport.com/greg-jennings). He's also got a better line in Minnesota than he had at Louisville.

How This Pick Could Go Terribly Wrong:

Teams don't like Bridgewater's size and they don't like his deep ball accuracy. In Minnesota, he'll have to play at Lambeau and Soldier Field twice every season and those could be tough games if there's inclement weather.

I don't know, but it's Jacksonville that took him. They're not exactly very good at evaluating talent as of late. Analysts were saying he was a great pick. I don't know if I believe them, but this is why I have the sneaking suspicion that Manziel is all hype. The draft's over. How do you guys feel about your team's picks?

The Eagles picked up 2 wideouts and a whole mess of defense. They got some picks from Buffalo in exchange for Bryce Brown, who likely would not have made the team this year after Chris Polk beat him out last year as backup to LeSean McCoy, and the acquisition of Darren Sproles from New Orleans. So we were loaded at RB to begin with. We had needs on D and I think we came away pretty good. Of course, we needed some new faces to fill the gap left by DeSean Jackson. Here we go:

Round 1: 26 Overall, Marcus Smith OLB, Louisville
Round 2: 42 Overall, Jordan Matthews WR, Vanderbilt
Round 3: 86 Overall, Josh Huff WR, Oregon
Round 4: 101 Overall, Jaylen Watkins CB/S, Florida
Round 5: 141 Overall, Taylor Hart DE, Oregon
Round 5: 162 Overall, Ed Reynolds S, Stanford
Round 7: 224 Overall, Beau Allen NT, Wisconsin

KUSA- The Denver Broncos have confirmed to 9NEWS that longtime owner Pat Bowlen has Alzheimer's and that he will no longer be involved in team operations.

Broncos spokesperson Patrick Smyth told 9NEWS in a text message that Bowlen will be focusing on his health.

Pat Bowlen became the Broncos owner in 1984 after he bought it from Edgar Kaiser.

He oversaw the Broncos during the team's most productive period in franchise history. He was the owner during the team's two Super Bowl Championships and 6 AFC titles.

Bowlen has been apart of more than 300 team victories in his 30 years as owner.

The word on "the street" was that both the team and the brass knew full well of the video way beforehand, and have even seen it, but the fact that it was leaked to the public caused them to act in the name of PR damage control. If this particular video didn't surface, Rice wouldn't have gotten thrown under the bus. And yes, I believe that is a very shitty way to go about things.

They are making political decisions. It makes me think that they're self-serving pieces of shit. It's not about what's morally right or wrong; it's about what makes the NFL look good and bad. One of these guys could be a serial killer and rapist of disabled children and the NFL wouldn't give a rat's ass as long as it didn't come back round to bite them on the ass.

Rice should've been gone when the first video surfaced and the first official facts about the case emerged back in Feb.

How hard is it to expect better of people and hold them to it?

Eh, I hear ya, but gone? Worse than the vehicular manslaughter cases? I guess I am of the opinion that the NFL is not jury and executioner.

Yes they are in the public eye, but they are also humans that have issues like anyone else.

Mandatory suspension, anger management training, and PSA's from the league is sufficient.

But I completely agree, don't sugar coat it, come out in front of the issue.

Terry O'Neill, the president of the National Organization for Women, has called for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to resign, citing Ray Rice's assault on his now-wife as just one of many examples of the league's failure to act against domestic violence.

No political opportunism here... move along.

Maybe I am being harsh, but I am the son of a victim of domestic abuse. My mom used to get the shit kicked out of her by her frequently drunk step-dad when she was a teenager. My grandmother used my mom as a human shield from him. I just happen to hate shit like this.

Abuse propagates abuse. The man grew up in it. He needs long psychiatric treatment for it. It's not just a one and done thing. Anger management isn't enough. And I think the organizations you work for should expect better behavior from you. If it can happen on the outside, it can happen on the inside. It's a special case of the neighborhood disciplining you when you do shit wrong. Old school. It works the best.

Understood, so deal with the issue and get him the professional assistance he needs. He's not going to jail, that's already been decided. His wife wants him in her life. At this point, what good can come of eliminating his livelihood? Getting tough on DV, in this particular case, means hurting everyone involved while changing nothing.

I think it's wrong that he's not gonna do time, or at least go on probation with court ordered treatment or whatever. There should be a consequence to the assault. If it were you or me, we'd be facing some kind of legal consequence.

I think the majority opinion would disagree with you. They're not going to want to see him on the field after this.

DENVER — Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks will definitely be one to watch.

After all, it’s a Super Bowl rematch, and who knows, it could be a Super Bowl preview as well.

But some Broncos fans say they won’t be listening to the TV broadcast because of who is doing the commentary.

The fans are angry with CBS football announcer Phil Simms, who called Sunday’s game between Denver and the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s a game the Broncos won, 24-17.

Some say he was biased against the Broncos and intentionally put down the home team.

There was even an online petition drive started that calls for Simms to be banned from calling Broncos games. The change .org petition by the Denver City Page had more than 27,500 supporters Tuesday morning.

Simms is scheduled to broadcast the Broncos game from Seattle on Sunday.

NEW YORK — ESPN personality Keith Olbermann called Broncos fans who signed an online petition trying to get CBS broadcaster Phil Simms off the team’s games “morons” on his show Tuesday night.

In his segment naming the three “Worst Persons in the Sports World” on the midafternoon ESPN2 show “Olbermann,” the host named the people who signed a Change.org petition seeking Simms’ removal as the worst.

“30,000 people have signed this. This nonsense. You’re morons,” Olbermann ranted from high atop his New York studio.

The petition has since reached 40,000 signatures and continues to grow daily.

After he went on some more, Olbermann wrapped his spiel up by mocking Broncos fans like they’re a bunch of hicks living in the sticks — all while having his own “oops” moment.

“You do know if it’s really that bad to listen to your team go 10-0 (the Broncos have won their past 10 games with Simms calling their games) you can hit mute, listen to Dave Logan and Brian Griese on the radio. The radio. It’s the thing in the house that’s a TV without pictures. Today’s worst persons in the sports world.”

Yes, that’s right, Olbermann still thinks Griese is still Logan’s partner on Broncos radio broadcasts when Ed McCaffrey has been in the position since the 2012 season. Griese was the analyst in 2010 and 2011 but left to take an expanded role at … ESPN.

You know — Olbermann’s current employer.

But perhaps that great thing isn’t available to Olbermann like a TV or radio is.

Google.

Teh One Who Knocks

This will sound like sour grapes, but it really isn't because I've hated the NFL OT format forever. They tweaked it now that you at least get a possession in OT if the other team only kicks a FG, but you still don't get to touch the ball on offense if the team that wins the toss takes the ball and goes down and scores a TD on the opening drive. They should just play the full 15 minute OT period and then let it end after that.

In all the other major professional sports, both teams are guaranteed a chance at an offensive possession in OT (although I guess in the extremely rare case in hockey, one team could win the face-off and score a goal in the first few seconds of OT, but that isn't commonplace at all). The NFL should be the same way.

FBD
09-23-2014, 01:51 PM
I think they should get the ball on the 20 and have 4 downs, then switch. Get ahead by two and game's done.

RBP
09-23-2014, 03:12 PM
Agreed. 15 minute OT. Hockey and basketball are different because you aren't guaranteed offensive possession for plays (sans turnover)

really... you signed an aging, mediocre, pussy, "work in progress" to a 7 year deal. You are fucking brilliant.

If you're a backup to one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, chances are you won't see the field much.

But with the Denver Broncos holding a 31-point lead over the lowly Oakland Raiders in the third quarter, Brock Osweiler figured it finally was his time to shine.

Too bad Peyton Manning had other plans.

<iframe class="vine-embed" src="https://vine.co/v/OiZYQExF7hU/embed/simple" width="600" height="600" frameborder="0"></iframe><script async src="//platform.vine.co/static/scripts/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

If you watch closely, you can see Osweiler eagerly grab his helmet, only to turn around in dismay as Manning trots back on the field to throw a million more touchdowns.

Fortunately, this story had a happy ending for the Broncos backup. Well, kind of.

Osweiler entered the game shortly after and got to play the entire fourth quarter but completed just 2 of 5 passes for 13 yards, as Denver seemed content to run out the clock en route to a 41-17 win.

Osweiler sucks anyway. I was pretty excited at first when he was drafted knowing that he wouldn't play for awhile but he had a ton of potential and would be learning from one of the best, but every time he gets on the field, he's just awful. The Broncos need to dump him and draft another QB to be heir apparent to Peyton when he's done.

Yes, Emery should be on the block... and frankly, Trestman too; he has clearly lost control of his team.

When the Cubs finally hired a real manager last week after three unproven nobodies in a row (and much gnashing of teeth from me), the press response was "finally, someone with a personality." Indeed and about fucking time.

We respect fire and brimstone... this town worships Ditka. Lovey was the same way... a thinker, a mellow soul. GTFO.

I expect that Philly boy in you understands that.

Yeah, I know how you feel. Low key coaches are door mats. You need a coach that'll get in your face and still make you respect him and want to play for him.

If it makes you feel any better, Nick Foles is out tonight and Mark Sanchez is starting at QB for the Eagles. It should be entertaining, to say that least. The Eagles should run the ball a lot.

Better? He hasn't started in 2 years and he was head and shoulders above Cutler this week. :suicide:

Mark Sanchez v CAR: 20/37, 332 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, rating 102.5

Sanchez is 28 and makes $1.5M. Cutler is 31 and makes $17.5M.

As for running the ball a lot... 37 yards on 23 attempts. :-s

My conclusion from all this is 2 things: 1) Cutler sucks & 2) DGX doesn't know shit about the Eagles.

j/k my friend... 9 sacks and 7-2 is impressive.

Given his past as a Jet, there's no way in hell anyone could have predicted Sanchez would've looked so good. Maybe it's the system? A decent system can make a mediocre QB look halfway decent. It helps when the D does their job too (and scores a touchdown). :dunno:

Jay Cutler: ‘I’ll Be The First Person To Admit We Need A New Punter’

http://i.imgur.com/vcSwmHT.jpg

CHICAGO—Following the team’s blowout 55-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday night, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler told reporters Tuesday that he would be the first person to admit the team is in dire need of a new punter. “It’s certainly not an easy thing to say, but at the end of the day, someone has to step up and accept that mistakes were made by our punter, Pat O’Donnell,” said Cutler, who pointed to O’Donnell’s blocked punt in the third quarter as playing a major role in the team’s unraveling and conceded that blame for the team’s loss rested squarely on the rookie punter. “Going forward, there will have to be some serious adjustments made to our punt unit—when individual players aren’t doing their part out there, we’re going to fall short as a team. Pat didn’t play well, and he needs to accept responsibility for that.” Cutler went on to acknowledge that Bears long snapper Jeremy Cain will also need to step up his performance significantly before next week’s game against the Vikings if the team is to have any chance of turning its season around.http://i.imgur.com/bPkWMTX.png
