(CNN) -- At least 15 people died as a result of an explosion on a military base in western Tehran, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported Saturday.
Saturday's explosion took place at a Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) munitions depot at a military base, a military spokesman told the agency.
Deputy Police Chief Gen. Ahmadreza Radan told Iran's semi-official news agency Fars that rescue workers were at the scene.
"Rescue workers are currently helping the victims. The explosion took place far from residential areas," Radan said, according to Fars. "The explosion is being investigated and the public will be informed of new developments."
