They made some good moves. Crazy money for a short stop, but the Padres offered him more and he turned them down. Apparently, Turner has family in and around the area.

Lost a few pitchers. Picked up Walker and Strahm.

Tim McCarver, a former All-Star catcher and longtime voice of the World Series, is dead at 81.

McCarver played 21 MLB seasons, for the Cardinals, Phillies, Expos and Red Sox. He was a member of the Cardinals’ World Series teams in 1964 and 1967, and made the All-Star game in 1966 and 1967.

As a broadcaster, he was color commentator for the Philles, Mets, Yankees and Giants. He also called 24 World Series for ABC, CBS and Fox.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan first reported on McCarver’s passing.

Phillies are 0 - 5 on the season so far. :|

How can they be 0-5 already? Opening day was Thursday so there's only been 4 days worth of games played max. :-k

I just watched them lose to the Rangers. Full series sweep. Oh sorry, 0 - 3. Hit the wrong number.

Well, it appears that the Sox can hit, but the pitching is absolutely atrocious.

Yeah, don't know what happened to our pitching but it blows really bad. I've watched 2 games in a row where our pitchers are getting tuned up bad.

1 - 4.

We beat the Yankees 4 - 1.

Teh One Who Knocks
04-05-2023, 11:43 AM
Well, now the Red Sox can't hit all of a sudden along with not pitching. And we've lost two in a row. To the Pirates.

The Pirates. :|

Chris Sale, our "ace" after two starts is now 1-0 with 13 K's but with 5 BB's and 4 HR's allowed with an 11.25 ERA :|

At least the Red Sox have improved their team ERA, now they're only 5th worst instead of third worst. :|

Max Scherzer has been suspended for 10 games for using a foreign substance.

Madison Bumgarner has been designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks. His ERA is horrendous.

I'm watching two games on TV where fielders miss rolling, not bouncing, groundballs...through their fucking legs. How the hell are these idiots in the Major Leagues?

The pitch clock sucks

:qft:

They need to find a happy medium. I understand the need to cut out some of the wasted time between every pitch, but the pitch clock is way too overboard.

Angels 18
Rockies 0

4th inning.

Colorado must be playing their 3rd stringers.

Correction: It's 23 - 0 in the fourth.

I think I'm gonna watch something else.

By the way, that LSU-Florida College World series game 1 was pretty good. LSU may not be the best team but they are clutch when they need to be.

The Angels outscored the Rox 32-12 in those 3 games, but lost the series to the Rockies.

Here comes the 2nd "half" of the season. Let's see how the Sox come out of the gate. It's still a toss-up as to whether they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. All depends how these next 9 games go, all very winnable. Three against the Cubs at Wrigley, three against the A's at the Mausoleum, and three against the Mets at Fenway.

Yankees took a 7-5 lead yesterday in the top of the 11th against the Rockies. Rox tied it up in the bottom of the 11th and then this happened later in the same half inning. No home runs at all this year for him until...

Stacy Wakefield, the wife of Boston Red Sox great Tim Wakefield who passed away earlier this month at 57, shared a message she found from her husband.

Wakefield, who was suffering from brain cancer, had words of wisdom in a note that his wife shared with Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr. He posted to his X account on Wednesday.

"Never forget where you came from," the message reads. "Be a mentor to others."

"You didn’t get to where you are today by yourself and no matter what status you accomplish in life, you should assume the responsibility to help those who are less fortunate than you.
1716957352195440846
"I’ve been involved with different charities my whole career and I can tell you that I’ve received much more than I’ve given.

"I’ve also learned that it doesn’t matter how much money you’ve made, how big your house is or what kind of car you drive. What matters most is: did you make a difference in someone else’s life?"

Wakefield, known for his incredible knuckleball through his 19-year MLB career, spent 17 seasons in a Red Sox uniform where he was a fan favorite throughout.

https://i.imgur.com/aI3aQrN.png

A two-time World Series champion, Wakefield owned a 4.43 ERA over 3,006 innings in 590 appearances for the Red Sox from 1995-2011. He made his major league debut as a Pittsburgh Pirate in 1992, where he spent his first two seasons.

Wakefield accumulated 2,156 strikeouts over his 627 total outings on the mound. He also had 200 regular season wins.

"Our hearts are broken with the loss of Tim Wakefield," the Red Sox said earlier this month.

"Wake embodied true goodness; a devoted husband, father and teammate, beloved broadcaster, and the ultimate community leader. He gave so much to the game and all of Red Sox Nation."

I'm sorry, but while what the Dodgers are doing with Ohtani isn't technically against the rules of the current MLB CBA, it's definitely outside the letter of the agreement. Being allowed to defer $68 million of hos $70 million annual salary for 10 years is bullshit and is just intended to skirt the rules of the luxury tax. It's a kick in the balls to all the other teams, especially the smaller market teams. There's no way that MLB will overturn this, but it's a whole bunch of bullshit that they are allowed to do it.
