RACINE - Kendrick A. Carr allegedly attempted to kill a woman who wouldn't leave a chair on Thanksgiving Day.

Carr, 23, of the 2000 block of Washington Avenue, appeared in circuit court on Monday afternoon charged with one count each of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct, and he was charged as a repeat offender on each crime. If convicted on all counts he faces a maximum penalty of 80 years and six months in prison or a $36,000 fine, or both, according to the criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, Carr was at the house of his girlfriend on Thursday and shortly before 6:30 p.m. became upset that the friend of his girlfriend was sitting on what he said was his chair. The friend refused to move when Carr told her to get out of his chair, and Carr became upset, the complaint said.

Carr began throwing items around the apartment, grabbed a knife with an 8-inch blade from the kitchen and stabbed the wall, and then went after the friend, the complaint said. He swung the knife at her several times and threatened to kill her, and the friend picked up a broom to fight him off, the complaint said. The attack stopped only when someone mentioned the police, and Carr ran from the apartment while yelling threats, the complaint said.
