Erin Colove, 25, of Olathe and Chase Esrich, 22, of Alton, Mo. were released from the Eagle County Detention Center on $1,000 bond after being arrested Sunday morning for speeding, possessing a controlled substance and child neglect.
A 7-year-old girl in the car at the time of the arrest was related to one of the two detainees. She was released with the defendants.
Colove, the driver of the vehicle, was pulled over at 8 a.m. Sunday morning by an Eagle County Sheriff's Deputy while traveling 97 mph westbound on I-70 near Eagle.
After the traffic stop, Eagle County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jessie Mosher said that a deputy smelled marijuana in the rental car. Further investigation yielded more than a pound of
"high grade" marijuana and $40,000 cash that was found in a paper bag stuffed inside a backpack.
Mosher said that Colove and Esrich admitted to deputities that the money was obtained in a drug transaction.
The Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting the Eagle County Sheriff's Department with this ongoing investigation.
