HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A man died Wednesday afternoon after falling from the bed of the pickup truck he was riding while attempting to hold down furniture, High Point police said.
Police said Kenneth Christopher Debnam was driving the truck along South College Drive about 3:35 p.m. when a mattress fell and the victim, Mario Sanchez Pennell, fell out as well.
Police said Pennell struck his head on the pavement. It wasn't known if he was trying to catch the falling mattress or simply lost his balance, police said.
He was taken to High Point Regional Hospital, then transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he died.
Police said no charges are being filed in the incident, and speed and alcohol were not factors.
