We all had BMX bikes but my folks couldn't afford one.I had an old hand me down 10 speed (bent over handlebars like the guys in the tour de France) and I used to go rally biking with that

I had a thing where I'd hit the curb full speed while holding the front brakes and flip off the bike onto the sidewalk.I bent 3 pairs of forks, then Dad said I could buy my own bikes

 I love the fire effect bit

We used to build really shaky take-off ramps in the park behind out house and neighborhood kids would actually volunteer to lay down under us as we jumped over them.Evel Knievel was big back then, so number of buses jumped would become number of kids.

 It's amazing more kids didn't go to the hospital

I had a rectangular toy box lid made of wood...maybe 16 inches wide and 36 inches long. That was our ramp and we put it on stacked 2x4's, odd pieces of wood...flat rocks

we never nailed anything together

We did all that crap too  We even cycled an old bmx down a slope, over a ramp - landing in the river Tay (during summer of course)

My claim to fame was riding a bike down our slide in the park...let me try and find a pic of the type of slide

interesting side note...during the winter a kid stuck his tongue on one of the tall support poles at the back.

A mother came running across the park with a pot of boiling water, intending to pour it down the pole to ease the kid's tongue off the metal.

I was something like 10 and said - Are you fucking serious????? YOU WILL NOT

 good times

On a 10 speed bike, didn't wipe out or nothing....

The pot she had was steaming, I can still see it in my mind. One of the kids went to her house to let her know that little Jimmy had about 2 inches of his tongue welded to the slide
