A GAME netball team has stripped off to raise money for their club.

The ballsy Bristol University students posed in a series of saucy shots for a 2012 calendar.

The girls are hoping to net enough cash to fund their team for the next year.

And the sporting students' snaps have already proved hugely popular online after a Facebook group promoting the calendar, which is out tomorrow, received thousands of hits.

Fundraising officer Maddie McKenzie said: "The response we've had has been absolutely amazing."

Politics student Maddie, 19, was one of the 20 girls who ditched her skirt and bib for the fundraising shoot.

She said: "It was a lot of fun. The support we've had has been fantastic, especially from our families and friends.

"I'm not sure my parents knew what to expect when I told them I was in a naked calendar, but hopefully they won't be too shocked.

"We'll see when I give it to my family members for a Christmas present.

"Some of the pictures are a little bit saucy but it was a lot of fun.

"We did it to raise money for the club, and although we do have sponsorship we needed more money to help with running costs.

"We initially ordered 250 calendars but we've already had to order some more - the interest has been amazing."

Fellow model and medicine student Molly Thorpe said: "There were a lot of nerves when we first started and it felt a bit strange to be naked but when we relaxed it was great fun."

Second-year Molly, 19, added: "As a club we have to self-fund and because we're students we don't have a great deal of money so this will go towards helping the club.

"The cash that we raise will go towards hiring courts, paying for balls and equipment as well as paying for fitness classes."

The calendars, which cost £7 for one or £10 for two, are set to be available to order from the club's website: www.bristoluninetball.com.

what kind of ripoff is this?

It's a real sport and very popular. That lady in NZ I was involved with ten years ago was heavily into it, and her team did quite well. She almost joined a semi-sorta-professional team a couple of years back.

She did tell me though that only women or openly gay men ever play netball though. Make of that what you will.

netball came from a female version of basketball. but there was a misunderstanding of the dribbling/travelling rule and in Netball you cant move with the ball

Yeah but netball is much like the original version of basketball, back when it was invented...no backboard, no moving.

Hockey is actually a Canadian game...basketball too if you want to get technical with who invented it.

But yeah, anytime you want to come over and play a game of shinney hockey with the lads, let me know. It's a little bit different than figure skating :)

I envision the ball is put into play and there's 5 statues standing there, passing the ball until...what? A shot is taken at the net from the closest statue?

Hockey is actually a Canadian game...basketball too if you want to get technical with who invented it.

Foul! The game was invented in Springfield, Massachusettes. While Naismith was born Canadian, at the time of the sport's invention, he was a naturalized American citizen, so no matter how you cut it, basketball is distinctly American.

No. The game was first played in a YMCA in Springfield Massachusettes. Created by a man who was a naturalized citizen. Hence, it's an American game.

Just like a Canadian. Always trying to take credit for American stuff.

There was no such thing as Canada when it was created, and it was widely played by Native Americans throughout the entire North American continent. You can't take credit for that, Mr. Canadian of European descent.

I felt like he was being channeled for a moment there...don't worry, it's passed.

You guys just have to face the cold, hard facts that we invented almost everything good up here...from sports to food, and you muscled in and stole the ideas, much like the Japanese who make copies of everything, yet originate nothing.

I envision a great wall being built along the 48th parallel...much like the Great Wall of China and some golden, shining day no oil or timber will move south...and we'll take our rightful place as supreme rulers of the world!

I believe Lee tried to put me on ignore once. He had the results in his signature, then promptly disappeared to take a break from the forum. I nearly had a conniption trying to figure out what the hell I did wrong that made him so mad to make him leave... then after I realized he was just fucking with me.
