A Florrisant teenager claims she was raped more than 30 times by her 59-year-old neighbor, Karen Clark, and Clark's late 62-year-old husband, Bruce Gilbert "Rocky" Clark, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported this afternoon.
The girl eventually told her mother that the assaults allegedly began when she was 11 or 12 years old and continued for about two years, the paper reported from court documents. The assaults began after she returned an item that her mother had borrowed from the Clarks, the documents said.
Karen Clark was arrested Dec. 1.
Public records show Bruce Clark died on Nov. 26. The Teller County Coroner's Office said he died from a gunshot to the head.
Neither of the Clarks have arrest records in Colorado and both are long-time residents of Florrisant, a rural community of about 110 residents about 35 miles west of Colorado Springs.
The girl told investigators Bruce Clark initiated the illicit sexual encounters, but his wife soon began participating.
"She guessed Karen must have thought it was 'hot' because she wanted to be involved," according to the arrest affidavit obtained by the Gazette.
Other court records show both Clarks were issued restraining orders on behalf of a 49-year-old neighbor on Nov. 23.
Karen Clark was released on $50,000 bond from the Teller County Jail on Monday.
