DOUGLAS — A Worcester man was arraigned Tuesday in Uxbridge District Court on a charge of possessing and concealing child pornography on his cellphone.

According to court documents, Douglas police were called at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 7 to 171 South St., where Kevin J. Norcross, 45, of 36 Richard St., Worcester, said he had been assaulted by Lance Martinez, 24.

Mr. Norcross alleged that Mr. Martinez had assaulted him because he had seen what he believed to be child pornographic images on Mr. Norcross’ cellphone, Officer Anthony J. Yannino reported.

Mr. Martinez denied striking Mr. Norcross, who officers said appeared to be drunk.

While police were speaking to Mr. Martinez, Officer Yannino said, Mr. Norcross was deleting images from his phone. Officer Yannino said he saw an image of a topless girl in her early teens on Mr. Norcross’ phone and seized it.

After failing two breath tests, Mr. Norcross was placed in protective custody. He was released the next day and was summoned to his arraignment on the child porn charge Tuesday.

Detective Sgt. David J. Brown said Douglas police are applying for a search warrant for the contents of the cellphone and deleted images.

Mr. Norcross, who was released after his arraignment, is not to have Internet or computer access or any unsupervised contact with children under age 16.

Pretrial conferences are scheduled for Jan. 27.

No assault charge was made against Mr. Martinez because there was lack of evidence, police said.
