A BODY found in the grounds of a psychiatric hospital was not that of a current inpatient, managers have said.
The Evening Post revealed yesterday that the headless body of a man had been discovered at Callington Road Hospital in Brislington on Wednesday. The head was found nearby.
Avon and Somerset Police are not treating the death as suspicious but were yesterday still trying to establish the identity of the man, who is believed to have been aged 25-40.
The Post understands that the body may have been in the grounds of the hospital, next to the Callington Road Nature Reserve, for several months.
Samples from the body will be tested to try and determine who the man was and a post-mortem examination was also being carried out.
Callington Road Hospital provides a range of inpatient mental health services, including a psychiatric intensive care unit for men who have been sectioned, a specialist drug unit for detoxification and psychiatric care for men who cannot be treated or supported appropriately in their own homes.
A spokesman for Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership, which runs the site, said: "The hospital can confirm that there are no current inpatients that are unaccounted for.
"The trust is fully supporting the police while they carry out their investigations."
