Police: Man bolts from pet store with $1,800 puppy

DUNWOODY, Ga. (AP) - Police in Dunwoody are on the look-out for a puppy thief who made off with a $1,800 pooch.

Authorities say employees at a Petland store on Ashford Dunwoody Road let a man hold the 2-pound Maltese puppy after he said he planned to buy a dog as a gift. He then dashed out of the store and into a waiting car Sunday afternoon.

Sales Manager Geoff Campbell tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that two store employees ran after the man but were unable to catch him.

Dunwoody police Sgt. Mike Carlson says the suspect is described as a black male about 6 feet 3 inches tall. He had tattoos on his neck and wore a horizontal striped shirt and a hoodie.
