A Melbourne mother was arrested Thursday on drunken-driving charges after she entered a bus-only lane at Suntree Elementary School, hit a gate with her car, drove over a curb and exited through an entrance on the way to a student pickup area, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Heather Brodeur, 33, driving a 2011 Toyota Camry, was picking up her child from the school just outside the Suntree Country Club community, north of Melbourne, at 3:55 p.m., troopers said.

She was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of DUI with property damage and one misdemeanor count of DUI. She also was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.

A bondsman posted Brodeur's $2,000 bail late Thursday, a Brevard County jail official said. She was expected to be released early Friday after being held for a minimum mandatory period of eight hours because of the DUI charges.

Brodeur was arrested in July 2010 and is charged with charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage, two counts of DUI vehicle property damage or personal injury and felony possession of methadone and buprenorphine — a narcotic sometimes used to treat opioid addiction. She also was ticketed on charges of careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Prosecutors further charged her with felony possession of The case is pending.
