PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A 42-year-old man accused of hitting a 15-year-old girl with a machete, beating her with a bat and trying to stuff dirty underwear in her mouth was arrested Wednesday on two felony aggravated child abuse charges, according to an affidavit released Thursday.

Port St. Lucie police arrested Owen Stephenson at 5 p.m. Wednesday at his listed address in the 500 block of Northwest Kilpatrick Avenue in Port St. Lucie, an arrest affidavit states.

The 15-year-old girl told police that Stephenson last month got upset with her and used a small baseball bat to hit her head, causing bruises and lumps.

She also said she was beaten while nude in the shower and that Stephenson struck her with a machete, leaving a cut to her forearm that needed stitches.

The girl said Stephenson grew upset because she took his “live-in paramour’s earrings.” She said he punched her in the face until she fell down.

“He then held her down and punched her repeatedly and then tried to shove a pair of women’s underwear in her mouth,” the affidavit states.

The girl had bruising on the left side of her face, swelling on her temple area and a bruise over the nose. She said Stephenson hit her in the stomach with a key and choked her. The girl also had bruising to her neck and stomach areas.

The girl’s brother “corroborated the machete attack,” saying Stephenson told them to say they were playing in the garage and the girl got cut.

Stephenson denied hitting the girl with any type of object, but said he beat her in the shower until she fell and struck her head.

He said he hit her with a key and put his knees on her arms to prevent her from moving so he could shove dirty underwear in her mouth.

“At no time did Owen believe this to be abusive,” the affidavit states.

A state Department of Children and Families investigator took the girl and her brother and put them in “emergency shelter placement.”

Stephenson was held Thursday morning in the St. Lucie County jail without bail, a jail official said.

So what relation is this girl to him? Story wasn't clear, but from what I gather, first time he beat her, she had stolen some earrings?
