HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Several students have been arrested after guns, pills and alcohol were found inside a local high school.
It all started when a 16-year-old boy from Harper Woods High School brought a gun to school. Harper Woods Police were notified after staff members reported gunfire on the second floor of the school.
Officers reviewed security footage that showed the teen pulling a gun out of his backpack, when it accidentally discharged.
The fired round hit a locker just missing nearby students, who went running into classrooms. Police confiscated the .9 mm handgun and also found .40 caliber ammunition in the teen's locker. The discovery of the ammunition prompted a school-wide sweep in search of a .40 caliber handgun.
A lockdown was put in place for the high school and nearby middle school during the search.
Police ended up finding two more guns in the sweep. One of them was loaded.
Pills, alcohol and knives were also confiscated from lockers.
Five male students and one female student were taken into custody.
Each of the cases are believed to be separate from one another.
