LIVERMORE -- A high school math teacher in Livermore has pleaded not guilty to 24 felony charges alleging that she had a six-month sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student.
Marie Johnson, 41, entered a not guilty plea Thursday in Alameda County Superior Court in Pleasanton.
She remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in lieu of $950,000 bail on four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16 and 10 counts each of oral copulation of a person under 16 and performing lewd acts on a child.
Authorities say Johnson, a math teacher at Granada High School, had a relationship with the boy from December 2010 to May 2011.
The two initially exchanged text and Facebook messages and swapped instant messaging through the smart phone game "Words With Friends," according to police. Later, they had sex in Johnson's car and other undisclosed locations in Livermore, police said.
The boy, now 15, was a former student of Johnson's, police said. She has been teaching math for 13 years.
On Jan. 10, the boy told a coach at the school that "he was a victim of repeated molestation," police Detective Joseph Draghi wrote in a statement outlining the grounds for Johnson's arrest.
The boy "provided a detailed statement of a long-term sexual relationship with Johnson," Draghi wrote.
Johnson was arrested a day after the boy notified his coach, authorities said.
