SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Prom dresses that show too much skin are banned from the high school prom in Southington.

A committee made up of parents, students and faculty agreed on the adoption of a new prom dress code which prohibits girls from wearing gowns with slits that rise above the fingertips and with cutouts in the side or midriff area.

The code also states that gowns must not plunge below the bra line and fall below the waist. Shoes must also be worn at all times.

Danny Dolan's girlfriend had to return her prom dress.

"She had actually bought a dress with a slit in it and after reviewing it with one of the administrators, she can't wear it now," he said.

The school principal says the school is not looking to stifle all fashion sense.

"At the same time, it's not a dance club it's not a beach, it's not that kind of a scene. This is a school event," he said.

I'm guessing they're probably not going to let the kids have sex on the tables either.

It's a prom and I think it should be somewhat formal....unless you got a smokin girl like Dee's...they can wear anything
