Russell Brand got himself to the jail today.

The funnyman turned himself in to New Orleans police this afternoon after a warrant was issued for his arrest for the office window he smashed with a paparzzo's cell phone.

Brand has been booked on one count of simple criminal damage to property and is currently in custody, though we imagine Katy Perry's ex won't be locked up for long.

Especially considering he's already settled up with the owner of that broken window...

A rep for the law firm that was unpleasantly surprised Monday night by a flying iPhone told E! News that the window has already been replaced and paid for by one Lamb Productions.

The film Brand is shooting in New Orleans is called Lamb of God, so...Make of that what you will.

Brand's camp hasn't yet responded to a request for comment. The arrest warrant issued yesterday indicated that he would be fined at least $700 for his outburst.

And there are probably more than a few photographers out there who wouldn't mind it if Brand gave anger management a go.

British funnyman Russell Brand is facing up to two years behind bars for smashing a paparazzo's cell phone after New Orleans, Louisiana police listed the crime as a felony.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star turned himself in to police in the city on Thursday and was arrested following an angry encounter with snapper Timothy Jackson on Monday. Brand stands accused of throwing the photographer's iPhone through the window of an abandoned building.

He walked free from jail hours later after posting $5,000 bail, and reports suggested he was just facing a $700 fine for a charge of simple criminal damage.

But editors at TMZ.com claim Brand's offense qualified as a felony arrest - because the damage caused to the iPhone and the smashed window amounted to more than $500. The window repair cost $240 alone. The actor has since compensated property owners.

The felony count carries a maximum punishment of two years in prison.

Russell Brand claims he was provoked by the paparazzi last Monday when he grabbed a photog's cell phone and threw it through a window -- and he's going to use provocation to fight any charge that might be filed against him ... sources close to Brand tell TMZ.

Brand was arrested Thursday for a felony, since the value of the window and the iPhone exceeded the $500 minimum for the crime.

Brand has hired a high-powered New Orleans lawyer -- Robert Glass. We're told if Brand is officially charged with the felony, Glass will argue that the damages were less than $500 -- Russell paid $240 to fix the window, and we're told Russell will claim damage to the iPhone was minor.

Brand is free on $5,000 bond.
