The winning numbers for the $356 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot, the third-largest prize in the game's history, were 9, 19, 34, 44, 51 and Mega Ball 24, but they did not produce a winner, officials said.

The lack of winner from Tuesday night's drawing means the estimated jackpot will grow to an estimated $476 million for a drawing Friday, according to the official Mega Millions website. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET and Tuesday night's drawing took place in Atlanta.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot were estimated at about 1 in 176 million, according to lottery officials.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won was $390 million in March 2007, according to Mega Millions.

The winner is selected through five balls drawn from a set of balls numbered one through 56, and one ball is drawn from a set numbered one through 46.

While there are nine ways to win a prize, starting from $2, ticket buyers across the country have their eyes on the $356 million jackpot, which has been growing since Jan. 24. That's when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner, Marcia Adams, 33, from Georgia. She won $72 million and chose the cash option of $52 million.

The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.

The estimated jackpot is based on national sales up to the time of the drawing. In the last drawing, in which there was no jackpot winner, almost 2.9 million tickets won Mega Millions prizes.

Yeah, even though the odds are astronomical, you can't win if you don't play...and half a billion is worth taking a chance on

Wow that's a pretty outrageous number

Wonder what you'd walk with if you took the lump sum and after tax

Roughly somewhere around $204 million, depending on which state you live in

Ahhh it depends on the state, interesting.

I think I'd just get on my cell phone and tell all my friends and family to meet me at the airport so we can fly to Hawaii and figure out what to do with such a stupid amount of money next :-k

Yeah, it won't vary too much, but it will depend on what the state income tax rate is where you happen to reside

Makes sense. Up here they just tax the income from the tickets instead of the jackpot, so the price advertized it what you could actually walk with. But the maximum it gets to is $50 million so not quite as wild

So if you live in California you'd end up with like $50. If you live in Texas you get to keep every last dime (other than federal taxes).

Colorado isn't too bad, the rate here for personal income tax is 4.63%

We used to have an army of temps in this building doing horrible projects like that...we called it our fulfillment department.Anything the client wanted..we would do.I felt so sorry for those workers.

Our worst client was Alta-Genetics...it's a worldwide company that sells bull semen, the brochures were a fucking riot! We delivered some of it to Iran, at a place called 'rocket plant street'...I shit you not and can screen the addy
