Police arrested a Minneapolis mother for allegedly shaving her 12-year-old daughter's head and making her pick up garbage while wearing a diaper as punishment for poor grades.
Neighbours called police Monday night when the girl was spotted crying hysterically outside her Fridley home, begging her mother to let her back inside, while about 25 onlookers watched, the Star Tribune reported.
The girl was still outside in the diaper when police arrived 30 minutes later. She told them her mother punished her for poor grades and finishing her homework late, police said.
She wasn't physically injured, police said. Child protection workers removed the girl and three siblings from the home.
The mother and her boyfriend were arrested and are being held in Anoka County jail. The pair could face charges.
Police said they had been called to the home four times in the past two years.
