ELKTON, Md. (WMAR) - A man is recovering after being shot by his best friend in a prank that went wrong.

Cecil County spokesperson Lt. Michael Holmes says deputies responded to the 600 block of Blue Ball Road in Elkton at about 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Holmes says the victim in this case was a recent victim of a home burglary and was telling his friend about it and saying that he could easily be a victim as well and that he needed to better secure his home.

The victim went to his friends home early that morning to pull a prank on him, just to show him how unsafe his home was. The victim wiggled a door handle that lead to where his friend and his 9-year-old child were sitting inside.

The shooter quickly grabbed his 9-millimeter handgun and opened the door. The victim rushed inside the home and growled at his friend, at that point, the shooter shot his friend in the chest.

Once the shooter realized that he had accidently shot his best friend, he quickly rushed him to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim remains hospitalized.

Holmes say the shooter isn't facing any charges at this time.
