A 33-year-old Tinley Park man argued with police about his arrest for driving under the influence at 2:43 a.m. March 18 near the intersection of Oak Park Avenue and 175th Street because he said he was walking home from the bar, not driving.

According to police, the man was pulled over after allegedly stopping his car inside an intersection at a red light and weaving inside his lane.

He allegedly smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot and glossy eyes and at first told officers he had a few drinks, then said he had not been drinking and again later said he had a few drinks, police said.

He had trouble keeping his balance while standing and was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, police said. On the way to the police station and while he was being processed, the man allegedly asked police repeatedly how they could arrest him for DUI because he said he was walking home from the bar. He refused to do a breath test.

He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device.

He was released on his driver’s license and 10 percent of a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Cook County court April 27. His car was towed from the scene and he was picked up from the station by his wife.
