Westboro Baptist Church is at it again.

Much as it threatened to do at the funerals of Heath Ledger and Natasha Richardson, the small Kansas church—which has notoriously picketed the funerals of fallen U.S. soldiers as part of a crusade against homosexuality—is planning to go Hollywood by threatening to protest Elizabeth Taylor's funeral.

"No RIP Elizabeth Taylor who spent her life in adultery and enabling proud f-gs. They cuss her in hell today. #Westboro will picket funeral!" tweeted Margie Phelps, daughter of Westboro Baptist Church pastor Fred Phelps.

Though if the past is any guide...

They may be all (hate) talk. Despite threats, the group were apparently no-shows at Richardson's funeral, and Ledger's funeral in Australia was a private ceremony.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 8-1 earlier this month that the Westboro congregation was protected by the First Amendment—if not standards of human decency—when it protested at the funeral of a Marine who had died in Iraq, with some people wielding signs that read "God Hates F-gs" and "America Is Doomed."

The soldier's father sued the congregation for sizable damages and won, but the appeals process ultimately led to the high court.

Taylor, who died earlier today at 79 after being in ill health for some time, was a tireless advocate for AIDS awareness and research and is revered by the gay community for her support and philanthropy.

"It's impossible to underestimate Elizabeth Taylor's impact on the fight against AIDS from the very beginning," said Craig E. Thompson, executive director of AIDS Project Los Angeles. "We're simply devastated by her loss."

"Today, we've lost one of the boldest advocates our community has seen," he added, "but her tremendous impact lives with us."

The two-time Oscar winner cofounded the American Foundation of AIDS Research, or amFAR, which also paid its respects to its late "Founding International Chairman" today.

"Dame Elizabeth's compassion, radiance, and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed by us all," the organization said in a statement. "She leaves a monumental legacy that has improved and extended millions of lives and will enrich countless more for generations to come."

But while there will surely be a memorial in Hollywood to commemorate the iconic star, the issue of where she'll be laid to rest isn't exactly set in stone. In recent years, Taylor had said that she wanted to be buried next to two-time husband Richard Burton in Wales.

Wherever the grand dame can rest in peace, we're all for it.

As long as those ghouls follow the letter of the law during their demonstration (and they always do) there's really nothing to stop them. Like always, they will revel in the endless free press, and empower them even more. If the mainstream media had any brains, they'd ignore these barbarians, and supply them with zero coverage. Of course the news media exist only to sensationalize and exploit, so the odds of that happening are remote.

She was a beautiful, remarkable woman, an icon in my lifetime and will go down in the history of celebrities with the likes of Marilyn Monroe.

I'm a Christian and these Baptist zealots (from the story) give everyone a bad name...fills me with shame actually.

True Christianity is about acceptance and looking out for your brother, not crucifying him because he's different.

( excuse my choice of words)

Agreed!
but the biggest problem with all organized religions are the extremists.
They behave in ways that bastardize their beliefs, and bring shame to those that truly want to live their life to the basic principles common to nearly every religion known to man... Be excellent to each other!

That's about the only thing I hate about attaching the C-word to myself....I have such opposing internal views as to what basic Christianity entails.I go to church yes, but sometimes I leave or don't go for months if I don't...ummm....feel the same vibe if you know what I mean.

These zealots are not Christians in any sense of the word.Wanting people to burn is not a Christian philosophy (according to me).Much the same as Muslim extremists who corrupt the true meaning of their God Allah

... of their God Allah

That would be the next problem with organized religions. Once the shared basic principles are out of the way, we have to argue over a name.
Since there is no common language and we rely upon translations done by man centuries ago, we could all be referring to the same entity.

I simplify everything

Either you believe in some sort of higher power or you don't.What continues to floor me is the various sects of Christianity and their individual, very narrow minded views on 'how religion should be.'
Muslim faith is the same. They can all read the same book, yet practice completely different beliefs and be prejudicial against other followers of the same faith.

Let me break it down for you...if there is a God, He certainly would not condone actions like the one in this story being committed in His name.He will exercise neverending patience and tolerance for those that make mistakes, own up to them and then try to better themselves...but He will not abhor violence or anger in His name....without His expressed written consent.
