SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -
After a woman stopped in a stranger’s driveway and danced around with a cupholder from her car stuck in her hair, she was arrested when her 2-year-old child was found naked, curled in a fetal position behind the driver’s seat in the car, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a home on Parris Bridge Road on Thursday by a resident who said she did not know a woman who was dancing around in her driveway.
A deputy said he questioned the woman, later identified as 36-year-old Shana Bishop. The deputy said Bishop told him she thought she was at her mother-in-law’s house and she had no concept of time or how she ended up on Parris Bridge Road.
The deputy said Bishop could not explain why her son was naked, sleeping in trash on the floor of the car. The deputy said Bishop was sweating and fidgety and could not finish sentences. Investigators said Bishop admitted to using methamphetamine in the past, and the believed she was under the influence of narcotics, so they arrested her.
Deputies said the toddler had welts and bruises on his legs, so he was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center to be checked out. The child was then released into the custody of Bishop’s parents, who said they had been raising the child until three weeks ago, when Bishop took the boy and they were unable to find her.
Bishop is charged with child neglect. She was booked into the Spartanburg Detention Center.
