Bob Welch, a former member of Fleetwood Mac, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Nashville, E! News confirms. Welch, 65, was found by his wife in their home around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said.

Welch was a guitarist and vocalist for the British-American rock group from 1971 to 1975. He then went on to form another group called Paris in 1976 and eventually embarked on a solo music career.

Police said that Welch had had health issues recently and left a suicide note.

I read " found by his wife" and thought she was dead next to him

Do you remember the movie Saturday Night Fever? I was 13 or 14...I wanted the soundtrack, so my brother and sister thought that they had failed me in some way so they gave me a huge stack of records from the 60's and 70's

coincidence - One of the albums was Buckingham/Nicks, before they formed Fleetwood Mac (limited edition album)

He never got the credit he deserved for saving Fleetwood Mac from extinction long before they were rich and famous.

Bob Welch was more bluesy when he was with Fleetwood Mac, but I was surprised when he went solo, he kind of did soft rock stuff on his debut album "French Kiss" If you're from England, you knew Fleetwood Mac before "Rumours" was released. Kind of like when Genesis had Peter Gabriel at the helm. It was a different band.

This was a fairly big hit back in '75 (when I was 10)

This was his big breakout hit - you couldn't escape it that summer. I serenaded a girl with this one - just me and an acoustic guitar. Yes, I got her! :D Christine McVie on background vocals.

A minor hit off that album

The two albums he made with Hunt Sales, and Glenn Cornick as "Paris", between Fleetwood Mac and his solo career weren't bad. They were a heavier power trio.

That's sad to hear. Even worse, he took his own life. :(
