I gave up on Eureka sometime during season 3....

Once I figured out that the problems they encountered every week were because of the bloody nimrods that lived in the town...it got old for me.
That and the fact that the sheriff (who should have a considerably lower IQ), always seemed to be the guy to figure out how to fix everything

Google it...nobody on the interwebz was impressed by it

An example:

Warehouse 13 Returns With In-Show Car Commercial
The Farnsworth Aisle

Warehouse 13 returned to the SyFy Network on Monday, July 11. The show kicked off its third season with a very strong episode that contained one disappointing scene, an integrated car commercial.

The scene occurred between Claudia and the new guy Steve Jinks. As Claudia welcomes Jinks to Warehouse 13 she drools all over his Prius.

“Well, well, well, somebody treated himself very nicely,” Claudia says to Jinks after she listed several of the vehicle’s main features.

The Farnsworth Aisle, which is named after a line from Warehouse 13, understands that shows have bills to pay (especially shows on cable networks) but shouldn’t car commercials run during commercial breaks?

Fortunately, the ultra-obvious, in-show advert didn’t sully what was an awesome episode—Myka returned, the Warehouse picked up a new agent who can tell when people are lying, and we were introduced to a new villain.

Nonetheless, let’s hope this is the first and last time Warehouse 13 pimps a product during the show. The last hour-long program on television that wants to go down the road of “vertical integration” is Warehouse 13.

Think about it.

The show’s premise is collecting artifacts. It’s the perfect format for pitching wares.

:-s

I guess I'm one of the cold lot then, because the only time I talk about a car's marketable features is when I'm actually looking to buy the car in question, while I'm on the dealership's lot.

And I'd like to think that I have a mess of better things to talk about with a new friend than rattling off car features of their own car. If somebody walked up to me and started talking car features to me, I'd think they were brain damaged.

Hal-9000
07-15-2011, 03:46 PM
wow...I guess Canadians are total freaks when it comes to a coworker or a friend dropping 20-40 thousand dollars on a new set of wheels. It's quite common to ask about the features, price, do you like it etc.

Claudia's questions are totally in line with what happens...it has mp3? bluetoooth?...those are 'schmancy' features that my car for example doesn't have.

Teh One Who Knocks
07-15-2011, 04:14 PM
Nobody is saying that if a friend rolled up with a new sled that we wouldn't ask questions, the point is that Claudia was reciting features exactly as a new car salesman would ;)

Hal-9000
07-15-2011, 04:22 PM
I saw it as she was a total tech geek, she picked out the cool features (as most tech geeks would) and made mention of them.

I am not a car nut to be sure and know (and care) little about them, but I would do the same.

Deaf, ghey guy at work just bought a Kia Sportage this week and we were all out there looking at the mp3 and bluetooth hookup.
Our shipper plugged his ipod into it immediately.

I guess I saw it as a valid Claudia thing to do considering her character, not an ad for a Prius. If the guy would have got out and listed the features, then it's a car plug

Hal-9000
07-15-2011, 04:36 PM
Here's a question of importance...does it seem to anyone else like they're not really sure if Myka or the new guy will be a permanent character on the show?

I get a sense that they're trying something for some reason :-k

Remember back in the good old days when they had to cover the brand names up on TV shows because you couldn't have product placement during the show itself?

Hal-9000
07-27-2011, 02:06 AM
Yes..I'm trying to think when the first TV show I watched had blatant products as props....maybe something on HBO like The Sopranos?

Hal-9000
07-27-2011, 02:07 AM
I know I'll be the minority...I like it when TV shows use products. It's more realistic to me.

Teh One Who Knocks

I know I'll be the minority...I like it when TV shows use products. It's more realistic to me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind it when it is just being in the normal course of whatever is happening, but when it becomes a blatant commercial like has happened in 2 of the last 3 episodes of Warehouse 13, then that's just obnoxious.

Hal-9000
07-27-2011, 02:23 AM
It's life...like I tried to tell you guys with the Prius.People go to Best Buy, they drive new cars and consume beverages and food. And we talk about it incessantly...like here and in our personal lives.

I'll watch the episode in a minute without knowing the product in question and I'll let you know if I think it was inserted, or a natural part of the story.

Hal-9000
07-27-2011, 03:15 PM
Good episode

As for the blatant product or business placement, yes that was pretty bad with Tiger Direct  They could have used some generic computer store
for the purposes of the story. It didn't put Tiger Direct in a bad light...certainly didn't promote them either which is weird.Kinda left me with the feeling
that I don't ever want to go to the store because of the shifty employees and maybe getting turned into clay watching a HDTV

Teh One Who Knocks
07-27-2011, 03:27 PM

When he took his shirt off for the new guy (and wasn't even drunk yet) to give him a look...I was howling

I didn't know Tiger Direct had retail stores.I thought they were online only in both the States and Canada.

Even tho it was only a wig, I was kinda liking Myka as a blonde :-k

I've never really seen the attraction with her..I see her more as a comedic actress..

Claudia - Artie...did you shave your eyebrows?

Watched the latest...it wasn't bad.
I wonder why Jinx didn't know the Top Gun reference, yet was right on board with Laverne and Shirley (late 70's, early 80's show)?

Oh yeah, he's ghey

They're gonna be all over the place next week.

"Sure Artie, we'll go after the artifact, driving our brand spanking new Hyundai Elantra with all the bells and whistles. We'll fly USAirways because that's how we roll. Just as soon as we're done drinking our crisp cool refreshing Shasta. Has anyone seen my new shirt? I bought it at the Gap with my low introductory interest rate Capital One Card."

I must say that I didn't mind the Tiger Direct one...they really didn't put the store in that great of light

After watching I would have had a little trepidation going into one of their stores.

Ha! Lindsey Wagner's character is on Alphas right now. So Alphas, Warehouse 13, and Eureka are all in the same universe.

Watched the latest and noticed they have a new director....they were doing that fast zoom in, zoom out shit for the majority of the scenes.

The unsettling cam worked well for Battlestar Galactica, notsomuch for this show.

Show was good as usual

Watched the Sept 12th episode."I even got some glitter in my Vaj-jay jay"

I have a confession to make...I hate Kate Mulgrew. It started with Star Trek Voyager, a show that I liked. It was her voice, like a aging trannie trying to sound dignified.
Now Mulgrew reminds me of an aging James Kirk.In fact if she sticks around, she'll hereby be referred to as Jim Kirkette.Same jowl structure and chins, same halting dramatic delivery...same deep voice.

Did you notice that everyone in the memory flashback was 30 years younger...except Mrs. Frederick?

They should have cast Ke$ha for the cameo in that role
