York, PA - A 37-year-old Conewago Township man was arrested Thursday night after he attempted to steal a bag of frozen shrimp from a supermarket by stuffing it down his pants, Northern York County Regional Police reported.

Brian Troy McDaniel, of the 5700 block of Susquehanna Trail, was detained by a store security officer and a customer at the Weis Market in the 2800 block of Carlisle Road in Dover Township after trying to make off with the shrimp, police said.

Police said the supermarket's loss prevention officer told them he had seen the suspect enter the frozen foods section of the store and remove two packages of shrimp from the freezer.

According to a police news release, McDaniel then allegedly "proceeded to pull the front of his jeans away from his body and deposit one of the bags of shrimp into his crotch area." Police did not say what he did with the other bag of shrimp.

The store security officer tried to stop McDaniel as he was leaving the store, police said, but McDaniel refused to stop and attacked the officer, hitting him several times in the face and neck.

McDaniel broke free and ran across the parking lot, police said. The security officer and a store customer who joined the chase caught him and detained him until police arrived.

McDaniel was charged with robbery, retail theft and simple assault. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
