NEW YORK (AP) – Burger King will try to lure customers this summer with a barbecue party — and a bacon sundae.

The world's second biggest hamburger chain on Thursday is launching several pork, beef and chicken sandwiches as limited-time offers.

And for a sweet ending, the company is offering a bacon sundae — vanilla soft serve with fudge, caramel, bacon crumbles and a piece of bacon — that started in Nashville, Tenn. earlier this year.

The salty-sweet dessert clocks in at 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar, and joins a kitchen-sink of other weird ice-cream combos.

Burger King's summer menu includes: A Memphis Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich. Carolina BBQ Whopper or Chicken Sandwich. Texas BBQ Whopper or Chicken Sandwich. Sweet potato fries. Frozen Lemonade.

The items will be available through the summer, or while supplies last.

The limited-time items are Burger King's latest push to win back customers and reverse sliding market share, an effort that started soon after the company was taken private by the private equity firm 3G Capital in late 2010.

Earlier this year, Burger King launched its biggest-ever menu expansion, including fruit smoothies, snack wraps and new salads. The items were intended to go after a broader audience of moms and families, a shift from the chain's previous strategy of courting young men with calorie bombs.

Core menu items, such as French fries and the Whopper, have also been tweaked as part of the effort to improve food quality.

Burger King is trying to underscore its focus on ingredients with a new tag line, "Taste Is King," which replaces "Have It Your Way."

A new ad has been celebrating summer barbecues to highlight the chain's emphasis on fire-grilling burgers. The new summer items will be featured in ads starting Thursday.

This month, 3G plans to take Burger King public on the New York Stock Exchange.

Wendy's is also revamping its menu to improve ingredients and recast itself as a higher-end burger chain. The makeovers by the hamburger giants come at a time when the traditional fast-food chains are seeing more competition from smaller players such as Five Guys Burgers and Smashburger that offer higher-quality food, and from burger alternatives such as Subway.

Burger King isn't the only fast-food chain trying to draw attention with unusual offerings. Taco Bell earlier this year introduced its tacos with Doritos shells and a "nacho burrito" that includes corn chips.

Only 510 calories?...must be in a small cup. I'm all in for a bacon sundae for sure! The 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar almost redeems it to decadent status

a few weeks ago, I had my first fast food burger in like 10 years.... it was a double whopper with cheese without mayo and pickle and I have to say, it was pretty fuckin' good. Other than the fact it looked as if it had been thrown together by stevie wonder, it even looked like the burger on the menu thing. I was actually impressed

Sometimes if you normally eat reasonably good food daily...when you get a big drippy burger as a treat, all of that fat and grease and cheese and salt and special sauce crap... tastes like Nirvana

I did have a back to back McDs quarter pounder vs whopper taste test and the former just tasted of ass and reminded me why I hadn't eaten a fast food burger for so long.

Generally, I prefer healthy food to unhealthy stuff, it's just the shit stuff is so convenient and relatively cheap :wha:

I don't eat much ice cream anymore...we have Dairy Queens over here and they make blizzards. If you don't know, they're kind of half hard ice cream, half whipped with things like oreo cookies in them.

The large cup is over 7 dollars and contains something like 1.39 liters of ice cream  ..pardon me, iced milk is what they use

They have awesome flavors like cheesecake or triple fudge brownie...:yumyum:

Mmm, Oreo cookie blizzard....

DQ had a special nutter butter cookie blizzard last year, I'm hoping they bring it back. It was really good. Do some of the DQ have food up there Hal? There are some here that have burgers, fries, hot dogs, fish, chicken, etc. It's pretty good chow.

Leefro

For tax reasons it is a pasty

Leefro
06-13-2012, 06:41 PM
A pasty is made by placing the filling on a circular-shaped pastry. For the pastry to enclose the filling and crimp the edges to seal the filling inside, making it half-moon-shaped. Traditional Cornish pasties are filled with beef, turnip, onion, and sliced potato and baked, but generally, a pasty can have any type of filling the cook wants.

A pastry is a dough consisting primarily of flour, water, and shortening that is baked and often used as a crust for pies and pasties.

A pie is made by pouring the filling into an unbaked or baked pastry (pie crust)

Two different pastries are used they are not the same
