MANCHESTER, N.H. -

A Connecticut man was accused of having his 11-year-old daughter take an alcohol breath test for him to allow him to start his vehicle.

Manchester police said they were called to the Sheraton Four Points Hotel about 5 p.m. Sunday for a report of an intoxicated man.

Police said they identified the man as Robert Brennan, 46, of Durham, Conn. Brennan's 11-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son were also with him, police said.

Police said Brennan's daughter told them he had her breathe into the ignition interlock system installed in his truck. Investigators said the girl said she blew into the system five times so he could drive to a package store and gas station to buy beer.

Brennan's daughter told police that when her father passed out in his truck, she called his ex-girlfriend, who contacted the hotel, which notified police.

"On arrival, police did find the man in question, and he did appear to have been drinking," said Lt. Maureen Tessier. "The two children were with him as well, and it appeared that they had been sleeping in the truck overnight in the hotel parking lot."

The children were taken into protective custody, and Brennan was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and ignition interlock circumvention. Brennan pleaded not guilty and told the judge he was in Manchester hoping to open a new business.
